PSP Last Meeting of the Year!

Come join us next Tuesday at our LAST Pi Sigma Pi meeting of the year!! Let’s celebrate a
successful year thanks to YOUR participation in the various events we hosted that were
organized by our AWESOME officers and SUPER AWESOME President Carlos Luna. We will
also be recognizing our GRADUATING SENIORS! Our partnering company is ConocoPhillips,
and as always, we will be providing dinner.

PNS Study Night TONIGHT!
Why not come out to study for those upcoming exams with your Pi-NSBE-SHPE peeps?

Where: Pi Study Room ECJ 1.216 (located across the engineering library) and also the Alec
Room in the library for all those who prefer a more quiet setting to study. We have also reserved
the Ramshorn Room in the library for more study space

Leadership Opportunity
2011-2012 Pi Sigma Pi Appointed Officer Applications:
I would like to invite you all to apply for an officer position for the 2011-2012 academic year.
This is a great opportunity to build your leadership skills, develop your resume, give back to the
Pi community, and get more involved in the organization. Serving as a chair position gives you
the opportunity to grow not only as a leader but also as a person. Remember that decisions are
made based on your application so make sure to put some thought and time into it. You can

Volunteer Opportunities
Brentwood Park Spring Cleanup
 When: Saturday, April 23rd (day before Easter)
 Time: 10a - 2p

On April 23rd (This Saturday), we will be hosting a PNS community service event. We plan to
do a spring clean up in Brentwood Park. This will be a fun opportunity to give back with your
EOE family before the year ends. Please complete the survey if you're interested in positively

event coordinator by Friday.

Scholarship Opportunities
Phil Schmidt Honorary Endowed Scholarship:
We have a special opportunity to apply for the Phil Schmidt Honorary Endowed Scholarship.
There will be two $500 scholarships awarded this spring to two outstanding members of Pi
Sigma Pi.

Criteria:
 Preference given to active members of Pi Sigma Pi
 Sophomores, Juniors or Seniors
 U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident
 Preference for students with some financial need, but not required
 Preference given to students who graduated from a Texas high school, but not required
to apply for the scholarship.
To apply, make sure your Engineering Scholarship Application is completed/updated. You will
also need to complete the short essays for the Phil Schmidt Honorary Endowed
Scholarship. You can apply for the scholarship and complete the essays here:

The deadline to apply is THIS Thursday, April 21st. The recipient will be recognized during the
EOE Excellence Awards Banquet on April 28. Please contact the Engineering Scholarship

ASCE Austin Branch Scholarship:

Deadline: April 20, 2011
 Applicants must fulfill the following criteria in order to be considered for an award:
 University of Texas student registered for the Spring 2011 semester and who will be
classified as a sophomore, junior or senior in that semester

 Membership and active participation in the ASCE University of Texas Student Chapter

Research Opportunities
TREX (Texas Research Experience)
Are you interested in pursuing an undergraduate research opportunity for 2011-12? The Texas
Research Experience program, or TREX, offers a number of opportunities to help successful
upper division students further enhance their academic experience with research. In addition
you will learn about careers in research and product development in an academic setting and
gain the experience to become a competitive graduate school applicant.

TREX students must:

· Be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident.
· Be enrolled in the Cockrell School during Fall 2011 and Spring 2012.
· Complete at least 45 credit hours bySept. 1, 2011 with AT LEAST 30 hours
completed at The University of Texas at Austin.
· Receive an A or B in all technical labs taken.
· Have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better.
· Attend mandatory training prior to the first day of the fall semester.
· Enroll in a one hour course for both semesters, GE 027M, Wednesdays from 4 to 5
p.m.

NASA Glenn Research Center
The Antenna and Optical Systems Branch of the NASA Glenn Research Center is looking to fill
a student intern starting this summer, 2011. Following are the skills we are looking for in
particular to help with our projects.
 Electrical Engineering student with a GPA above 3.0
 Strong math skills, especially in -- Vector analysis, Linear algebra, Linear systems
 A strong engineering background in -- Digital Signal Processing analysis, Control
Theory analysis, Microwave design
 Other important skills being sought are -- Computational skills, MATLAB (in DSP and
Control Theory) and a general MathCAD based problem solution familiarity

NASA Develop GEO Program Internship Opportunity:

This is a NASA training and development program. Students work on earth science research
projects, mentored by science advisors from NASA and partner agencies and extend research
results to local communities. The projects demonstrate to community leaders how NASA
science measurements and predictions can be utilized to address local policy issues.

This is a paid internship located in Wise, VA and will begin in June, 2011 with a duration of 10
weeks. We are looking for Spanish speaking students, as this specific project is a collaboration
between NASA interns and organizations with government agencies in Mexico. Interested
