One of the Philippines top intrapreneurs, Manny V. Pangilinan, also known as MVP, is
the managing director and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of First Pacific Company Limited. It is
an investment management and holding company based in Hong Kong that operates in Asia-
Pacific. He is the Chief Executive for the company's investments in the Philippines, which
includes Metro Pacific Investments Corporation, PLDT Inc., Philex Mining Corporation and
many more. Moreover, he is also a President Commissioner of PT Indofood Sukses Makmur
Tbk in Indonesia. His work ethics, leadership style, and unparalleled vision made him a
renowned entrepreneur. According to Mike Toledo, chief operating officer of Silangan Mindanao
Mining, "MVP has passion and compassion. He is brilliant yet down to earth. He is a visionary,
yet he is pragmatic. A leader with a heart, a philosopher-king, a boss, mentor, and a friend.".

MVP is known for being a visionary man. He envisions his success like a man in the
future. According to Ramoncito Fernandez, "MVP is a visionary and a hands-on leader with
impeccable business acumen. He is humble and is continuously hungry for innovation and
solutions to alleviate our country's concerns.". Pangilinan believed in big goals, not small ones.
He values the idea of goal setting, as he said, "The plan would never fly if its objectives never
finished.".

Moreover, his determination and persistence in his work is truly admirable. According
to his executive assistant, Edilbert Dungo, "Aside from hardwork and perseverance, our boss
MVP, if he really wants a project, he really goes for it no matter what the obstacles are.". With

is also a risk-taker; he is not afraid to risk something to obtain excellent results. He would make
bold decisions that his father would warn him as too aggressive. As he said in an interview,
"You have to be aggressive if you mean to stay in this business and grow. You have to take
risks. I think that's simply the nature of the beast," he added. "Over time, I've noticed that the
entrepreneurs here have become more aggressive, more growth-oriented, and so forth. And I
think that has been the engine of this economy."

His ability to set goals made his visions become a reality. His persistence and
determination kept him going and continue to grow. His boldness in taking risk has made him
unstoppable in achieving success. His entrepreneurial competencies made him the CEO of
more than 20 diversified corporations in the Philippines. He also received numerous awards
such as Best CEO in the Philippines by the Institutional Investor (2004), Distinguished World
Class Businessman Award by the Association of Makati Industries, Inc. (2005), Management
Man of the Year by the Management Association of the Philippines (2005), and many more. He
was also given a Ramon V. del Rosario Lifetime Achievement Award (2015) for his outstanding
contributions to nation-building and exemplary corporate citizenship. He is indeed an MVP in the
business world.

Diosdado P. Banatao (Technopreneur)

Dado Banatao, also called "Pinoy Bill Gates", is popular for inventing two of the
foundation technologies in every Personal Computer - the chipset and the graphics acceleration
architecture. He founded Mostron in 1984, a company that manufactures motherboards. In

1985, He co-founded Chips and Technologies, an early fabless semiconductor company. His
third start-up business was S3 Graphics in 1989, it focuses on enhancing the graphic
capabilities in personal computers by using a graphic accelerator chip. Which later on became
the leader of the graphic-chips market in 1996. In 2000, he started Tallwood Venture Capital, his
own venture capital firm. In 2010, he became the CEO of Ikanos Communications, a provider of
semiconductor and software products for use in home. His competitive spirit, love of taking
calculated risks, and technical knowledge nurtured him into a successful technopreneur. His
creativity and thirst for innovation also contributed to his success.

Some of the entrepreneurial attributes that Banatao has are: commitment to work
contract, taking calculated risks, and persuasion and networking. His love and passion to
his work is unmeasurable. His drive to continue innovating cannot be hindered, as he said in an
interview, "What I do now has to continue. I don't think we ever retire, we just move on from one
task to another.". He also loves taking calculated risks, he earned and lost 350 million dollars in
a single day at the US stock market. He confirmed that, saying "That's what happens when one
plays big. That's all part of risk-taking in business. You just have to make sure that you're still
ahead. Since my companies Chips & Technologies and S-3 went public, I have continuously
looked for new challenges, investing in multiple companies." Moreover, he said "A lot of people
are afraid to take risks. If we don't convince entrepreneurs to take risks, in the end, it won't get
any better.". Also, he has also known for having a lot of connections. With the help of his close
friends and associates, he achieved success in his business. He shared in an interview that, "In
industry, naturally you get exposed to seminars, conferences, you go to presentations or your
industry events and you meet a lot of people. You meet your competition. You get an
understanding of the players in the market. You begin to know the key people in the industry
who are going to help you.".

Given the personal entrepreneurial attributes that he possesses, he was able to become
what he is now. His passion and commitment to work made him to create significant inventions.
His love for taking calculated risks have made his business grow and develop. While his
connection and network became a ladder in achieving success. He also received many awards
such as, Asian Leadership Award (1993), Pamana ng Filipino Award (1997), Master
Entrepreneur of the Year Award (1997), and Kalampusan Award (2011). Moreover, he was also
part of the Top 100 of The Forbes Midas List for five consecutive years (2002 t0 2006).

Jamico Jamlang, the founder of The Bamboo Company, is a Filipino ecopreneur who
aims to protect the environment through the use of bamboo. His social enterprise helps in
eradicating the use of plastic and rural poverty. Preventing 47,000kg of single-use plastic to be
wasted, the business offers sustainable and eco-friendly alternatives. Moreover, the business
also provides job opportunities to Filipinos, which currently employs a total of 110 individuals.
His business offers various bamboo-made products such as tumblers, lunch boxes, cutlery sets,
mugs, jars, watches, clothes rack, coffee grinder, plant rack, bamboo flooring, plates, etc.
Jamlang is an entrepreneur with tremendous corporate-social responsibility. He prioritizes the
common good before his profitability. His passion in conserving the environment made him a
successful entrepreneur.

Jamlang is an opportunity-seeking entrepreneur, he solves environmental challenges


making bamboos as an alternative to plastic. When he started his business, people laughed at
his business idea, especially the bamboo toothbrush. However, he turns the people's criticism
into a platform to introduce their product to the Public. In an interview he said, "When we first
started, we were just laughed at by people like having this bamboo toothbrush. How do I use it,
what's it for me? They are just laughing at what is the bamboo toothbrush being sold. We were
able to really push our advocacy for helping the environment by enabling that and we are able
to get attention in the community.". He is also known for having persuasion and networking
skills; through it, he could make jobs for the Filipino individual. He seeks enjoyment through
helping people and making them happy. As he said, "Whenever I change some people's lives. It
is during those times when other people would tell me that they are very happy for me to assist
them, or are very happy for my enterprise, or the things that I'm doing exists.".

Moreover, he also demands for efficiency and quality of the products he make. He
decided to use bamboo as the material for its product because of its strength and durability. He
guarantees that he produces a product with great quality and benefits. "Building the system that
would work on it and building the capability of the whole enterprise. Right now, I'm still working
on it. I'm trying to build the team and enabling them to be more capable." he said.

With these entrepreneurial attributes embedded in him, he made his business grow
bigger. He gained a 48 thousand followers on Instagram and 34 thousand followers on
Facebook. He also has an active selling website and plans to obtain a physical store in Quezon
City. His ability to seek opportunities made his business established and well-known. His
persuasion and networking skills created an impact and influence on his employees, making
them capable of creating an efficient and quality product.

Bill Drayton (Social Entrepreneur)

The pioneer of social entrepreneurship, Bill Drayton is the founder and CEO of Ashoka
Innovators for the Public (1980). It is an organization created to help, support, connect, and
build up social entrepreneurs ang their ideas. They are responsible for creating new ideas that
aim to transform society's system, provide benefits for everyone, and improve the lives of
millions of people. Ashoka is active in more than 90 countries, including the Philippines. Unlike
other entrepreneurs, Drayton does not believe in old hierarchical systems. He wants everyone
to become a changemaker and contribute to the world. His desire to help ordinary individuals

of the true social entrepreneur is to change the world."

said in an interview, "Our job then is to build a global team of these social entrepreneurs and
our business entrepreneur and other partners in collaborative entrepreneurship so that we
together can, indeed, tip the framework of thinking and then behavior across the world."

situations. In solving problems, he believed that one must master empathy to create a social
change. In an interview, he said, "Rather, every child must master empathy. And anyone who
hasn't mastered empathy will not be helpful in this new world.". Furthermore, he is also known

disregards the hierarchies of repetitive functions because he believes that it cannot function in a
world that is defined by change. He is open to changes, as he said, "How you contribute today
is going to be different from how you contribute in two days. And so, the team of teams is
constantly changing. There's no way where a hierarchy of repetitive functions where only a few
people are allowed to think can deal in that world."

Having these competencies and attributes contributed a lot to his entrepreneurial


success. His persuasion and networking skills made his business the world's largest network of
social entrepreneurs. Moreover, he transformed countless problems into business situations
through his opportunity-seeking ability. His visionary mind allows him to create a new world for
social entrepreneurs. Apart from his entrepreneurial success, he is also received innumerable
awards such as, Yale School of Management's Award for Entrepreneurial Excellence, National
Public Service Award, Public Service Achievement Award, etc. He was also chosen As One of
America's Best Leaders by US News & World Report and Harvard's Center of Public Service.
