INTRODUCTION
I. BACKGROUND AND RATIONALE OF THE STUDY
In reality, many students were confused in choosing there courses,
choosing courses were difficult decision in the lives of every students. Most of
the students didn’t like their career path or they don’t know what skills best suited
to them this probably its hard for them to take or determine which courses they
should study in collage or sort of career they are best suited in. Due to
mismatched with the wrong careers current issues of unemployment rate in the
Philippines increases. Interest and aptitude testing which are employers are
using psychometric assessment, which includes interest and aptitude testing, to
narrow a wide field of job applicants to the best candidates. These tests are also
useful for students nearing graduation to help narrow down a viable education or
career path. Interest testing vary with age, experience, education and
environmental exposure and are cumulative. As people age, they discover new
interests and build on old ones. What begins as a childhood passion can
become a lifetime interest or a viable career direction. Interest testing asks
questions designed to find a career match best suited to areas of interest or to
determine whether a current career is the best choice. Aptitude test are used to
measure the ability to reason, including verbal, comprehension, numerical and
abstract reasoning skills. One of the most widely used aptitude test is the
National Career Assessment Examination. Interest and aptitude tests reveal
what you are most interested in and what areas you are likely to find success. If
you initiated the test you will receive a list of potential careers based on your
scores that fit your interest and abilities , you maybe hired or excluded by the
results. Selecting a life-changing decisions is one of the most difficult decisions
to make in life. The questions are design to reveal how you think, not necessarily
what you know. Some math skills and Interest and aptitude testing helps
determine career or education direction. The study focuses on the Level of
Awareness of the Grade 10 students of Mangaldan National High School in
taking National Career Assessment Examination or simply called NCAE in
choosing the right strand as they enter Senior High School. The National Career
Assessment Examination is a test taken by High School students specifically
Grade 9 students in the Philippines that determines their strengths in different
career fields. It was first given in January 2007 and replaces the former National
College Entrance Examination. It is the important tool of the government to
address the job mismatch, cut the unemployment rate, and reverse the local
“brain drain” phenomenon. Present conditions indicate that a large number of
college graduates fail to find appropriate employment suited for the course they
finished. The purpose of the National Career Assessment Examination is to help
students determine which courses they should study in college and what sort of
career they are best suited for. Like many standardized test, the National Career
Assessment Examination measures students’ general scholastic knowledge.
However, the National Career Assessment Examination also tests vocational
aptitude, occupational preferences and entrepreneurial skills. One of the reasons
the National Career Assessment Examination was developed was to address the
issue of unemployment due to workers getting mismatched with the wrong
careers. The hope is that by determining which careers they are ideally suited
for, students can plan a course of study that will give them the skills and
education they will need for their ideal careers. National Career Assessment
Examination test result are only one part of the bigger picture in determining the
best career fit for a student. Students shouldn’t make major decisions based on
National Career Assessment Examination results alone. Their entire school
career as well as their own goals and interests should be considered when
deciding on a course of study and a career.
On the legal basis according to Juan De la Cruz it states that “To maintain
the highest quality of education for National development and to respect the
right of every citizen to education, the House of Representatives has recently
approved a measure creating the National Career Assessment Examination
(NCAE) for high school graduates seeking admission to post-secondary learning
institutions.” Furthermore Nationalist People’s Coalition Rep. Kimi Cojuangco of
Pangasinan, chairman of the House committee on Basic culture said the
passage of House Bill 5895, or the National career Assessment Examination
Act, will pave the way to a high quality of education in the Philippines by
regulating and monitoring the admission of high school students to courses
where they are better aptitude and potential. Under the measure, the created
National Career Assessment Examination shall assess and evaluate the
aptitude, skill or inclination of student in a particular occupational filled to pursue
a college or university course, a technical vocation course, or an entrepreneurial
course. Therefore the study will enlighten the mind of every student and serve as
the way to understand the advantage of taking National Career Assessment
Examination. Moreover the researcher study determine the effect of National
Career Assessment Examination in achieving individual success. The study will
give solutions to the undying complain of unemployment rate in the Philippines
this will give strength to future studies. The main purpose of this research in line
with National Career Assessment Examination is to help students determine
which courses they should study in college and what sort of career is suitable for
their skills and abilities. National Career Assessment Examination prepares
brighter future for students. It measures the student’s knowledge, it aims to give
students enough time for comprehensive career guidance before they go in
college.
II. CONCEPTUAL FRAMEWORK
On the legal basis Jared Martin (2015), The National Career Assessment
Examination was created because many people in the Philippines were
unemployed. They didn’t like their career path because of this they probably quit.
The purpose of the test is to help the students to determine which courses they
should look at for Senior High and college. National Career Assessment
Examination result can be a big help for the students to have a beautiful career
and future.

REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE
This chapter exhibits the related studies and literature concerning the study of
the National Career Assessment Examination of Grade 10 students in
Mangaldan National High School which will greatly help the researchers in the
conceptualization of the present study.
Kenni (2007), conducted a research paper entitled “Choosing a Career”. The
study determine the main objective of administering the National Career
Assessment Examination at assessing the possible career tracks of each
student. This helped the students decide at the course they would likely to
succeed in. Students have a lot of a career option in their mind. Parents have
also career options for their child. But with the results of National Career
Assessment Examination, students and parents can better decide on what
career path to choose where their child would likely to meet success. It is also
stated that National Career Assessment Examination can serve as a guide for
students in setting their goals in college. It is also aimed to address the problem
of unemployment due to the “job skills mismatch” in the country. DepED
Secretary for Programs and Projects Vilma Labrador emphasize the importance
of student and graduates being able to provide skills demanded by the market so
that they can be employed, regardless of their educational background. Lapus
said about the National Examination would help students determine the college
course to be taken in account to their ability and the requirements of the job
market.”Job skill” mismatch is major challenge right now. A large number of
trained graduates are left unemployed because they do not fit the requirements
of the job market (Solmerin, 2007). Moreover, Sun-star Cebu (2007) contains the
article that education secretary Jesli Lapus announced that the National Career
Assessment Examination is set for test administration to one point eight million
(1.8 m) Senior High School studies in 13,000 public and private secondary
schools nation wide. The National Career Assessment Examination consist of
the following components, scientific ability, and mathematical ability, reading
comprehension, verbal ability, manipulative skills, and entrepreneurial [Link]
result of National Career Assessment Examination on the first and second year
of its implementation would be used solely for recommendation purposes in the
career guidance. On the legal basis Jared Martin (2015) The National Career
Assessment Examination was created because many people in the Philippines
were unemployed. They didn’t like their career path because of this they
probably quit. The purpose of the test is to help the students to determine which
courses they should look at for Senior High and college. National Career
Assessment. In addition, Canuel et al (2007) emphasizes in his article that the
students need to be efficient with his knowledge and expertise, thus the National
Career Assessment Examination (NCAE) is endorsed by the Department of
Education to assist them wisely in organizing their ideas. It is believed that this
would facilitate them in attaining new method that would benefit them during the
Examination. The people behind the formation of this review material exhibited
their proficiency and aptitude in the way that they presented this instructive and
enlightening. This review material war pertinent for it provides dependable
information on different subject areas every Senior Student ought to be familiar
each set of question in this review motivates the students to carry on with their
undertaking of attaining superior education. Solas et al (2007), elaborates that
the accomplishment of every student rest on how will he is able to draw together
all his knowledge be stored or learned. But still, no matter how clever or gifted a
student is, he needs all support an institution can offer.
Throughout a career, Calimpang et al (2005) used design and produce
information about the prevailing situations or what has been happening. The
National Career Assessment Examination is endorsed by the information
formation of this review material exhibited their proficiency and aptitude in a way
that they presented this in structure and enlightening. Academic Performance to
perform is to take a complex series of actions that integrate skills and knowledge
to produce a valuable result. In some instances, the performer is an individual. In
other performances, the performer is an individual; in other instances, the
performer is a collection of people who are collaborating, such as an academic
department, research team, committee, student team, or a university.
Performance, as the age goes, is a “journey not a destination.”According to
Perrone (2007), man’s occupation determines the kind of person he becomes
since, through his waking hours, his cognition about himself, his wants and
goals, and his interpersonal response traits are molded. Rodrigo (2006) once
said that informal and formal knowledge provided through society environment
has focused on the acquisition, retention, and utilization of information pertaining
to the world.
Several studies show that new students all over the world are usually faced
with the dilemma in making a career choice decision in their lives (Bandera et al.
2001; Cheraw 1991; Issa and Nwalo 2008; Mac Gregor 007; Mc Mahon and
Watson 2005; Watson et al. 2010). In most cases, the choice of career, subject
and courses of study and the subsequent career paths to follow are a nightmare
for prospective undergraduate students (Issa and Nwalo 2008). Most often,
choosing the right subject combination leading to the right profession can make
the difference between enjoying and detesting the career in the future. Each
individual undergoing the process of making a career choice is influenced by
such factors such as the context in which they live, their personal aptitudes and
educational attainment (Bandura et al. 2001; Watson et al. 2010). In their study,
of Watson et al. (2010) found that the majority of aspiration for social type
occupations followed by investigative type occupations. The same study
reported that more than 80% of the total sample aspired to high status
occupation (Watson et al. 2010). This study suggests that students from lower
socio-economic families are not given adequate space to make independent
decisions on their careers. It is clear from this findings that despite the limited
state resources available, the shortage of high level skills and a praising need to
increase income levels among the poor, high student, drop-out and failure rates
are a major problem in South African universities. Studies have also investigated
factors that
influence career choice by high school students (Duck and Rallis 1991; Jawiz et
al. 2000; Mudhovozi and Chireshe 2012).
