Defining the Self: Philosophers' Views

This chapter aims to define the concept of "self" according to different philosophers such as Socrates, Plato, Augustine, Descartes, Hume, Kant, Ryle, and Merleau-Ponty. The instructor will state their understanding of how each philosopher conceived of the self and explain how their own concept of self is compatible with their views. Criteria for an excellent response includes providing comprehensive and accurate information about each philosopher's perspective on self as well as organizing the ideas in a logical flow.
