Teenage Pregnancy Crisis in Davao Region

Davao Region had the highest rate of teenage pregnancy in the Philippines according to a 2020 population survey. Davao City had the most cases at 3,320, followed by Davao de Oro with 2,160 cases and Davao del Norte with 1,906 cases. Unplanned and unwanted pregnancies, including those resulting from rape, remain serious problems. While urban areas have more access to healthcare, many teenage mothers in Davao Region do not receive early checkups. Pregnancy prevention education and family planning services need improvement, especially in rural areas, to address the ongoing issue of teenage pregnancy in the region.

UNPLANNED PREGNANCY CASES

PHENOMENON One of the predominant dilemmas today is teenage pregnancy. Teen

TEEN-AGE PREGNANCY pregnancies keeps on being a problem for families, educators, healthcare
IN DAVAO REGION professionals and the public authority.

DAVAO Region has recorded the highest teenage pregnancy cases in the
Philippines Davao Region has not made much advancement in diminishing
the quantity of unplanned pregnancies, out of 90% of unintended
pregnancies 15% of unplanned pregnancies are teenagers.

Sadly, these rates have been expanding and remain genuinely high in general.
Teenage pregnancy is also a cause for concern, since the most recent recorded
case was 12 years of age. Urban communities have a total access of offices
lying-in facilities and health care centers, yet a large portion of teenage
mother haven’t visited their nearby center for early check-up.

Teenage moms are also financially incapable of the fact that most of them are
still dependent on the guide of the government help. The City Health Office
(CHO) reported having a surplus of reproductive health items such as
contraception tablets, intrauterine devices (IUDs)and implants. Between 70
and 80 percent of pregnant women admitted to the SPMC are high-risk
patients. The absence of health-care facilities remains an issue, particularly in
rural areas. We believe continual education movement for safe pregnancy and
responsible motherhood is essential.
