KCC SSAO E-voting System
This system is created using Visual Basic 2008 and Microsoft Access 2007 is used
for Database support and crystal Report is the tool used for reporting. In this
system, it introduces a computerized registration form for each voter through
which voter details, including name, course, year level, etc. can be entered. From
these details an algorithm will generate a unique id. This registration system will
retain a single database table for all the students of the Kabankalan Catholic
College. The officer of SSAO that is in-charge of the voting activity will collect the
details from the registrar office.
And here are some features of these systems:
 Can register new students as voters
 The voter can vote only once in every election per school year
 The admin can open or start the voting of candidates
 Can register new candidate in every year level and in different categories
 The administrator can view the logs for those voters who did not vote as well
as the track of those who logged in the system.
 And the administrator has the control on resetting the scoring of all
candidates.

Related Studies
Computer and internet have made effective learning environment. In the
last two decades, the Electronic Voting System has been practicing widely and
improving. The Voting System was originally introduced in 1986 (later in 1974).
Only the United Kingdom and Switzerland have reached the step of developing
an Internet voting application. However Estonia, the first country in the world,
fully covered Internet voting including mobile voting. The legal framework for
e-voting technologies should ensure adequate protection of human rights. In
particular, special consideration should be given within legal framework
impact.

AVS in Educational Institutions

AVS provide essential advantages to any educational institutions in

general and instructor in specific. According to Peter et al. (2004) discusses a
secure based system for e-voting that was developed. They tested the
application several institutions aspects, and usability in fourteen field trials. In
their paper they describe the method and findings. What they learn about
turnout, about the logistics of organizing e-voting and about usability and
reliability of the system in practice.

Status of AVS Nowadays

Electronic voting (also known as e-voting) is voting that uses electronic

means to either aid or take care of casting and counting votes. Depending on
the particular implementation, e-voting may use standalone.

Electronic voting machines (also called EVM) or computers connected to

the internet. It may encompass a range of Internet services, from basic
transmission of tabulated results to full function online voting through
common connectable household devices. The degree of automation may be
limited to marking a paper ballot, or may be a comprehensive system of vote
input, vote recording, data encryption and transmission to servers and
consolidation and tabulation of election results.

A worthy AVS must perform most of these tasks while complying with set
of standard established by regulatory bodies, and must also be capable to deal
successfully with strong requirements associated with security, accuracy,
integrity, swiftness, privacy, accessibility, cost-effectiveness, scalability and
sustainability.

Taban Habibu (2017) The Public opinion and democratic in universities

setting are the most important determinant to establish a good administration.
Voting is the process through which individuals convey their opinion and has
the freedom to elect a leader of the choice to signify and address the student’s
issues. In today’s technological and knowledge age, computerized related
matters become widespread.

The AVS

Common questions

The administration plays a crucial role in managing an educational Automated Voting System by overseeing the configuration, execution, and monitoring of elections to ensure fairness and efficiency. Responsibilities include verifying the accuracy of voter registration lists, securing the integrity of voting hardware and software, and addressing technical issues promptly. Administrators must also provide voter education, ensuring that all participants understand how to use the system correctly. Additionally, they must maintain election logs and reports to ensure transparency and accountability, contributing to heightened trust in the electoral process .

Student opinions and participation in democratic processes within universities, facilitated by automated voting systems, have significant implications for institutional governance and student engagement. Automated voting can empower students by making participation easier and more convenient, potentially increasing turnout and making student voices more representative in decision-making. High participation rates can lead to leadership that better reflects the student body's preferences and concerns, promoting more responsive and effective governance. These systems also contribute to a culture of democratic engagement and accountability, preparing students for active participation in broader civic processes post-graduation .

Standalone electronic voting machines primarily differ from internet-based voting systems in security and accessibility. Standalone electronic machines significantly lower the risk of hacking as they are not internet-connected, but this security often limits accessibility, requiring physical presence at a voting location. Conversely, internet-based voting increases accessibility by allowing remote participation, facilitating higher voter turnout. However, this method increases security vulnerabilities, including potential cyberattacks and the challenge of ensuring voter anonymity and vote integrity. Thus, while both systems aim to improve the voting process, each bears distinct trade-offs between security and accessibility .

An Automated Voting System provides several advantages to higher education institutions, including improved efficiency and accuracy in election processes, enhanced security through digital records, and the ability to swiftly count and report votes. It also offers an accessible voting solution, potentially increasing student participation and engagement. Additionally, AVS can reduce the administrative burden associated with organizing and managing elections, allowing staff and resources to focus on other critical areas. These benefits contribute to a streamlined and effective electoral process within educational settings .

Incorporating internet voting applications in educational institutes can substantially improve accessibility, efficiency, and engagement over traditional voting methods. Internet voting reduces logistical challenges of physical polling, allows for real-time vote counting, and encourages higher voter participation by making the process more convenient. Furthermore, it adapts to modern technological trends among students. However, it also demands strict cybersecurity measures to ensure data integrity and voter privacy. The successful deployment in Estonia showcases its potential, but it must align with robust legal frameworks to protect human rights and election integrity in academic settings .

Implementation challenges associated with Automated Voting Systems (AVS) in educational institutions include ensuring robust security measures to protect against unauthorized access and data breaches. Institutions must also deal with technological limitations such as hardware compatibility, software updates, and scalability to accommodate varying numbers of votes. Usability issues arise from different user competencies, requiring comprehensive training and support. Legal compliance related to data privacy laws and election regulations poses additional challenges. Furthermore, initial set-up costs and ongoing maintenance require financial investment, making it crucial to evaluate cost-effectiveness relative to traditional voting methods .

The Automated Voting System using Java Netbeans IDE enhances the voting process in college settings by providing multiple functions such as registration of new candidates, courses, parties, and positions, as well as adding users for administration purposes and registering new students to vote. This system is designed specifically to handle the logistical needs of college elections, making the process more efficient by allowing students to digitally log in using IDs to cast votes and by displaying live results of candidates with their corresponding vote counts. It prevents repeat voting by detecting if students have already voted, thus maintaining election integrity .

The legal framework for electronic voting systems is critical to ensuring human rights protection during elections by establishing standards that govern the security, privacy, and integrity of the election process. It must ensure that systems are accessible, protecting the right to participate in elections without undue barriers, while also safeguarding voter anonymity and the confidentiality of votes. Furthermore, it should facilitate transparency and accountability, providing mechanisms to audit and verify election outcomes. Robust legal frameworks help prevent technological abuses and ensure that the use of electronic voting enhances, rather than undermines, the democratic process .

The KCC SSAO E-voting System offers several unique features to enhance transparency and management of school elections such as a computerized voter registration form, real-time tracking of voting logs, control over candidate scoring, and restricting each voter to one vote per election. The system is equipped with a detailed logging mechanism, allowing administrators to monitor voting activity and identify individuals who did not vote. Moreover, it supports separate registration and voting processes for each year level and category, which enhances the management and transparency of the election process .

The PSITS Automated Voting System improves the efficiency of student voting processes by automating the candidate and voter management through CRUD operations, CSV file imports, and generating passwords automatically for students. Additionally, it ensures security by limiting each student to a single vote and requiring account activation for login. Administrators can manage user access and generate canvassing reports to track the results of elections effectively, which helps in maintaining a high standard of data processing and reduces time consumed during elections .
