Engaging with History at Museums

Visiting historical sites, landmarks, and museums is important for understanding history. It allows students to see historical facts and events in a practical way, rather than just reading about them. These places provide interactive experiences that enrich our knowledge beyond what can be learned in textbooks. Engaging directly with historical locations and artifacts provides a visceral connection to the past and allows us to contextualize and reflect on the struggles of those who lived through historical periods in a more meaningful way.

Module 12 Assignment 1

Why visiting historical sites, shrines, landmarks, and museums

important in the study of history? How has your previous
experience of visiting a specific landmark or museum helped you
in understanding of a historical fact or event.

Historical places are always bringing a great experience of

learning new things. Many people like to visit historical places with
their friends, family and loved ones. It is also helpful to improve
our educational skills. We see actually those things practically
which we read about in our textbooks. There are so many
historical places in this world and every place have its own history
and importance. Some historical places are very interactive in
nature which helps us to see directly those things which we learn
about in our schools. This is not only beneficial for us, but it is
also useful for a student like us and this is a great opportunity
for everyone to learning new things because there is no age limit
for learning. Visiting historical sites, shrines, landmarks, and
museums important in the study of history because the presence
of the past embodied in structures built by our ancestors enriches
our lives and enlarges our understanding of history while creating
for us a sense of continuity. In a changing world the presence of
familiar and beautiful landmarks imparts a sense of security, of
timelessness. I realized that visiting historical sites can not only
enrich our understanding of a particular historical event, but it can
also allow us to engage with history in a way that provides greater
local contextualization and a visceral connection to the people
who lived through it. In fact, visiting the historical sites like a
museum makes me feel alive in a way that no textbook had been
able to make me feel until that point. Seeing the collections and
reading archival sources such as journal entries and letters
available at the museum allowed me to not only imagine life
during that day , but also to reflect on the struggles and
experiences of all the people in our past. And its not only to
improve our knowledge, but it also gives us a new story and a
new lesson in our life. We can learn how people are living in the
old lifestyle they use to survive.
