CHAPTER 1 – INTRODUCTION
A. Background of the Study
Learning is the outcome of an activity and is also developed via activity. Among
activities which students perform quite often are mathematical puzzle. If such puzzles
are performed according to the rules satisfying certain didactical goals, they are called
didactic puzzle in the educational progress. From the educational point of view,
Sequence de Explorer assist in teaching geometry via developing geometrical
knowledge, reasoning, critical thinking and visual-perceptual skills.
Mathematical puzzle makes up an integral part of recreational mathematics.
They have specific rules as do multiplier video games, but they do not usually involve
competition between two or more players. Instead, to solve such puzzles, the solver
must find a solution that satisfies the given conditions. Mathematical puzzles require
mathematics to solve them. Logic puzzles are a common type of mathematical puzzle.
This study aims to enhance the mental ability and critical thinking of the students;
help the students develop their love for mathematics and appreciate the value of
mathematics in life. This study will help the students develop their analytical thinking,
and for the teacher it will help them to motivate the students.
Mathematics has its advantages. It can enhance, improve skills, sometimes we
feel boring while solving mathematical problems but, you can also use mathematics o
reduces stress. In your own little ways, you can make it as a fun and exciting subject. All

you can love mathematics too.. because “The Essence of Mathematics is not to make

B. Statement of the Problem
This study aims to guide Researchers in conducting a Research regarding the
positive effects of mathematics puzzle to the selected grade 10 students of Rinconada
National Technical Vocational School s/y 2019-2020. In the end of the Research the
following must be attained:
1. Boost or enhance the mental ability and critical thinking of the students;
2. Help the students develop their love for mathematics
3. Find enjoyment in solving puzzles while learning at the same time
4. Apply the lessons in solving puzzles in real life situation
5. Making conjectures, taking decisions, checking and veryfying the results
6. Combining the use of arithmetic sequence, geometric sequence, harmonic
sequence, fibonacci sequence and geometry within given activities;
7. Appreciate the value of Mathematics in life; and
8. Enhance the ability of the students in solving mathematical problems.

C. Importance of the Study
The proponents were optimistic that this project would be significant to the
following persons:
STUDENTS This will develop the analytical and logical
thinking skills of the students within a given
period of time. It is also serves as the venue of
meaningful learning experience.
TEACHERS This will help teachers motivate students to learn
and appreciate mathematics in a very unique and
enjoyable way.

CHAPTER 2 – BODY
This chapter presents the research method, data gathering procedure, sources of
data used in this research, administration and retrieval of questionnaire, and statistical
treatment used in the analysis and interpretation of data.
A. Research Method
The researchers make quantitative survey questionnaire for the grade 10
students of Rinconada National Technical Vocational School s/y 2019-2020 to know the
positive effects of mathematics puzzle. there are selected students from said grade
levels who have bad time in the area of mathematics. We conduct this study due to its
appropriateness and suitability for analyzing the data collected. We also administered
questionnaires (closed question) gather brief background information to express their
views and at the same time to list down positive effects of mathematics puzzle to the
respondents.
Questionnaire: According to Best and Khan (1993), a questionnaire is an
instrument in which respondent provide responses a questionnaire according to them is
used when factual information is desired. Questionnaire may be personally administered
or mailed to respondent.
Quantitative survey questionnaires were also used for learners so as to:

a. Establish the profile of the students/respondents.
b. Establish the importance of mathematics in everyday lives.
The nature of the recent research require written responses from the selected
students/respondents through the quantitative survey questionnaire for each selected
grade 10 students in every grade level with the total of 30 respondents.
The same set of questionnaires were given to the respondents to answer the
given questions to ensure the correspondence of results after the responses from the
students were solicited and all the papers in each respondents were collected. We
carefully give attention for those who didn't answer some of the questions that was
written in the questionnaire and for some of them who answer the questionnaire that is
not related in the question.
Respondents
The respondents of the study were composed of 30, all Grade 10 students 5
students representing each sections.
Data Gathering Procedure
The procedure used in this research was survey questionnaire, which the
researchers developed taken from valid resources. Survey questionnaire was made out
from this component and was analyzed after conducting the survey.

Survey Questionnaire
The primary tool used in this research was a survey questionnaire.
Preparation of the Questionnaire. The preparation of the set of questions was based
from random questions which is useful in determining the level of competence in
vocabulary and comprehension.
These questions were submitted to the instructor for verification,
validation and for approval. The draft of the questionnaire was submitted to the instructor
and to other instructor who were approached by the researcher to check and revise for
research study. Suggestions given for its assessment were reflected and after its
approval, final copies were print out.
Validation of the Questionnaire. The survey questionnaire was given to our
teacher for validation purposes and other professional help.
Statistical Treatment of Data
After collecting the information taken from the data-gathering process, the
responses were grouped and tabulated according to different variables included in the
research. The data gathered were presented quantitatively with the use of statistical
procedures specified below.

Frequency Count. This is totally the answers of perceptions of the
respondents and determined the percentages of each response, where a tally was made
by counting the responses to every indicator of each variable included in the
questionnaire.1
Percentage Technique. In order to determine the percentage count of the
responses to indicator ONE, included in the questionnaire, nominal data was used.
Ordinary data/treatment was based on the frequency through the percentage formula. 2
The formula is:

Where: P= Percentage
N= Total number of respondents
F= Total Answer
Weighted Mean. The weighted mean was utilized to compute the respondents’ level of
competence in English language in terms of vocabulary and comprehension and the
factors affecting their level of competence.3 The formula is:

The Findings of this study will give benefits to the students, teachers and future
researchers.
In order for us to gather the information that we needed we used survey
questionnaires. After creating the questionnaire we look for 30 students from grade 10
level. After the survey, we gathered all the answers and tabulated it. Lastly, we made the
data analysis of our study.
B. Findings
Through this research or study we are able to know the positive effects of math
puzzles to the selected grade 10 students. These are, boost and enhance the mental
abilityand critical thinking of the students, help themdevelop their love for mathematics,
find enjoyment in solving puzzles in real li9fe situation, making conectures, taking
decisions, checking and verifying the results, combining the use of arithmithic,
geometric, harmonic sequence, fibonacci sequemce and geometry within given
activities, appreciate the value of mathematics in lifeans lastly,to enhance the ability of
the students in solving mathematical problems.
C. Conclusion
In this study, it was found that Grade 10 students were able to understand more
mathematics lessons through mathematics puzzle.
The positive effects of mathematics puzzle to the students are the following:

2. They found enjoyment while solving the mathematics puzzle.
3. It made easier for them to answer the specific lesson in mathematics.
4. Through the mathematical puzzle it could encourage students to create their own
puzzle.
D. Recommendation
The following are the suggestions for the enrichment of the students in the field of
mathematics:
For Students
Spend time in solving mathematics puzzle.
Don’t hate mathematics.
Give some time to encourage your self to have mathematics puzzle in your life.
For Teachers
Prepare some teaching materials like mathematics puzzle in your discussion.
Inspire students to have their own math puzzle.
Make them realize that they have a potential in the field of mathematics while
enjoying in the same time.
