Home Measurement Experiment Guide

This document provides instructions for an at-home experiment on measurement and units. Students are asked to measure 5 household items using tools like rulers or tape measures. They record the measurements in centimeters and convert the units to inches and scientific notation. Students then calculate the percentage error between the measured and labeled lengths to determine if the measurements are acceptable. The objectives are for students to practice unit conversion, calculate percentage error, and understand the importance of accuracy in daily life.

Measurement at Home
I. Objectives
At the end of this task, you will be able to;
1. convert units and scientific notation;
2. check the percentage error if it is acceptable or not; and
3. cite the importance of accuracy in daily lives.
II. Materials
 Measuring Materials (e.q. Ruler, Measuring tape, Meter stick, etc.) Note: use on what is
available at home.
 Pen and paper
 5 random materials can be find at home.
III. Procedures
1. Pick five(5) things that can be found inside your house. Note: Chosen materials should have
measurement labeled on it. (e.g. Short bond paper dimensions are 8” by 11”). Take note of the length
of the table.
2. Using your measuring material, find the length (in cm) of the chosen things. List it on the
table as your measured data.
3. Complete the rest of the table by converting it into the given units and scientific notation.
Distinguish the significant figures in the given. Note: Use the measured value in converting.
4. Lastly, find the percentage error based on the labeled value and measured values in the
data. Label it if it is accepted or not.

IV. Data

V. Set-up
Attached pictures or proof that you did your experiment. Put atleast 3 pictures.

VI. Analysis and Guide questions

Answer the following questions based on the experiment conducted.
1. What are the measuring tools that you use? Is it available in your home?

2. What are the hardest thing or parts of measuring the chosen materials?

3. Can you compare the data that you have from the labeled to the measured value?
Are they all accepted? If one or more of them is not, what do you think is the problem?

4. Based on this experiment, how important to be accurate in measurements?

VII. Conclusion
Note: Align the conclusion to the experiment objectives.
