in which these characteristics have been shaped into a pattern, particularly a recognizable pattern.
What was the situation when Padre Faura stood in the balcony of Ateneo de Manila?
- The execution of Rizal.
What was the situation of our country based on the poem? Prove your answer by extracting a line from the poem.
- “Between the soldiers. With their Mausers raised.” The Philippines had little independence at the time since it
was under Spanish colonial rule. The Spaniards were in charge of the Filipinos' every move. Filipinos have
become slaves in their own country. Capital is more powerful than truth. If you have the courage, they will kill
you in front of a large crowd. If you have the courage, they will kill you in front of a large crowd. Several people
will refer to you as a rebel.

- The poem is addressed to Jose Rizal. It exemplifies the hardships endured by not only Jose Rizal, but also by all
those who save and sacrifice their lives in order to give our country independence.
How do you feel while reading the poem, that Padre Faura witnessed the execution of his former student?
- I was saddened because Father Faura saw it as well, and he lacked the courage to save his pupil and the power to
stop the execution.

- The poem elicited a feeling of sadness. The poet compares Rizal to a star in the poem. He was born, like a star,
to fulfill his mission on Earth. It gives hope and light not only to Filipinos, but also to other nations who are
suffering in the same way we are in the hands of foreigners.
What was the message that Danton Remoto wanted to convey in this poem?
- He wanted everyone to know that we should honor Dr. Jose Rizal's sacrifice.
