Online Questionnaire for Travel Preferences
Online Questionnaire for Travel Preferences
In this research, the Likert Scale is adapted to capture the respondents' levels of agreement or disagreement with specific statements about their travel preferences. It is crucial as it transforms subjective opinions into quantifiable measures, facilitating statistical analysis of attitudes and perceptions. This closed-ended format forces respondents to choose from predefined options, ensuring consistency in responses and enabling comparative analysis across respondents .
The questionnaire consists of three main parts: the first part collects demographic data of the respondents; the second part gathers information about the respondents’ academic profile; and the third part includes questions regarding respondents’ views, opinions, perceptions, and factual information about local Filipino preferences for traveling outside the country compared to visiting local tourist attractions .
Unpublished and published literature, studies, and journal articles are consulted to inform and support the development of relevant and appropriate questions for the questionnaire. By leveraging existing research and findings, researchers ensure that their questions are grounded in established knowledge and are tailored to effectively address the study's statement of the problem .
Both closed and open-ended questions are utilized to ensure comprehensive data collection. Closed questions provide measurable, quantifiable data by using structured response options like the Likert Scale. In contrast, open-ended questions allow respondents to express their perceptions, experiences, views, and opinions in detail, providing richer qualitative insights that might not be captured through closed-ended questions alone .
The primary data gathering instrument used in this research is the online questionnaire. It is deemed the most suitable form because it efficiently collects respondents’ views, opinions, perceptions, and factual information using a structured format. The questionnaire is designed with a Likert Scale format, which allows respondents to express their levels of agreement or disagreement with provided statements, making it effective for measuring attitudes and opinions .
Advantages of using an online questionnaire include obtaining data efficiently and economically from a broad audience and allowing participants the flexibility to respond at their convenience. However, disadvantages may include lower response rates due to digital fatigue and potential bias from excluding non-internet users. Additionally, the absence of interviewer interaction may limit respondents’ comprehension of questions and affect data quality .
The study ensures the questionnaire's questions are appropriately formulated by aligning them directly with the research's statement of the problem. This alignment is achieved through a detailed review of related literature and studies to extract relevant insights, and by critically analyzing the issues the research seeks to address. This systematic process helps to create questions that are precise, focused, and capable of eliciting informative responses that directly contribute to resolving the research problem .
The demographic part of the questionnaire aims to collect information such as age, gender, educational background, and potentially other socio-economic factors relevant to understanding the context of respondents. This data is important as it helps in segmenting respondents for analysis, thus allowing researchers to identify trends, draw comparisons and understand the wider implications of travel preferences across different demographic groups .
Collecting academic profile information helps in understanding the respondents' educational background, which might influence their travel preferences and perceptions. This data serves as an additional layer for analyzing how education levels correlate with travel attitudes, providing deeper insights into whether academic exposure impacts choices to travel domestically or internationally .
Utilizing an online questionnaire may lead to insights that are heavily quantitative in nature due to structured responses like the Likert Scale. It might also drive engagement from a tech-savvy demographic, potentially overlooking individuals without internet access. Compared to face-to-face or telephone interviews, it limits the depth of insights since there is no opportunity for probing deeper into responses. However, its reach and convenience can provide broader insights into trends and collective attitudes that might be less feasible with other methods .
