MODULE 3: Peoples of ASEAN: An Ethno-Linguistic Map

This Module covers the ethno-linguistic composition of the ASEAN that is most
diversified and is still being debated from many angles. The highly diverse ethnicity of the
ASEAN as a whole holds the key to the variations of cultural groups which makes it almost
impossible to achieve a unified ASEAN social community. This ethnic complication and
community building cut across economic, political, and socio-cultural integration within and
outside the ASEAN member countries. The origins and integration of ethnic and cultural
groups in the ASEAN pose a challenge for research and studies that are directly and indirectly
related to socio-cultural changes in ASEAN societies: from the smallest unit of society like
the family and small group affairs to the complex affairs of organizations like public
administration and governance.
