RECTIFIER
The device which is used for
rectification is called rectifier.
3/9/2017 3
RECTIFICATION
The conversion of alternating current (AC)
to direct current (DC), this involves a
device that only allows one-way flow of
electrons.

Single-Phase Rectification
Half Wave Rectifier:
In which only the positive or negative portions of
the signal remain:

Single-Phase Rectification OUTPUT
The output DC voltage of a half wave rectifier can
be calculated with the following ideal equation.

Full Wave Rectifier
In which either positive or negative portions are
inverted so that the entire signal has the same
polarity.

Full Wave Rectifier Output
In this case of Rectification we gets a complete
inverted signal to the positive portion like this
show on figure.

Three Phase Rectification
A three-phase diode rectifier converts a three-phase AC voltage
at the input to a DC voltage at the output.
* Types Of Three Phase Rectification:
A) Three-phase, half-wave circuit,
B) Three-phase, full-wave circuit using center-tapped
transformer,
C) Three-phase bridge rectifier,

Three Phase Half Wave Rectification
Three Phase converters are 3-
phase controlled rectifiers which are used to convert ac
input power supply into dc output power across the load.
They provide higher dc output voltage and higher
dc output power.

Three Phase Full-Wave Rectification
The three-phase full-wave bridge rectifier is used where the
required amount of dc power is high and the transformer
efficiency must be high. Since the output waveforms of the half-
waves overlap, they provide a low ripple percentage. In this
circuit, the output ripple is six times the input frequency.

3-Phase Full Wave Rectification By Using
Center-Tapped Transformer
If the 3-phase AC supply is fed via a transformer
with a center tapped is called three phase
center-tapped transformer . This rectifier
requires six diodes,

3-Phase Full Wave Rectification Using Center-
Tapped Output
In three phase full wave Rectification we gets
highly output DC voltage one output with the
some ripple voltage.

ADVANTAGE AND DISADVANTAGE FULL WAVE
BRIDGE RECTIFIER
ADVANTAGE:
need for center tap Xformer is eliminated.
PIV is one half of that of center tape circuit.
Output is twice than that of center tap circuit.
DISADVANTAGE:
Requires 4 diodes.
Internal resistance voltage drop is twice than
that of centre tap circuit.
