METHODOLOGY
In this chapter, the Research Design, Research Procedure, Research
Instrument, and Research Respondents are being discussed.
Research Design
The research design used in this study is Phenomenology. Since
phenomenology describes the common meaning of several individual’s lived
experience about a phenomenon and this design accurately fits their topic. The
purpose of this strategy is to generate a universal description of a phenomenon
from its several individual contexts. This technique applies the process of
documenting and understanding deeper the life of the chosen professional
psychologists and their success in their work.
Research Respondent
The researchers agreed to have 4 professional and successful
psychologists as their respondents. These psychologists are namely B.F
Skinner, Mitch Sommers, James Onken, Virgilio Enriquez.
B.F Skinner is an American Psychologist and an influential exponent of
behaviorism, which views human behavior in terms of responses to
environmental stimuli. He was born on March 20, 1904 at Susquehanna,
Pennsylvania, U.S. He received his Ph. D. from Harvard University (1931) and
remained there as a researcher until 1936, when he joined the faculty of the
University of Minneapolis, where he wrote The Behavior of Organisms in 1938.
A professor of psychology at Indiana University, Bloomington in 1945-1948 and
in 1948 as well he became a professor of psychology in Harvard University and
influenced a generation of psychologists. (Source: [Link]
Mitch Sommers when he was a sophomore in college have guessed by
everyone that he was destined to become a Russian translator given that he
was majoring in Russian and did not yet have a second course in mind.
However, he enrolled in Introductory Psychology; a course taught by Steve
Sabat, a member of the Psychology Department on the spring of his junior
year. Mitch was smitten with the scientific approach to study of human
behavior, going on to complete his psychology major by taking a full course
load of psychology classes in his senior year, and then heading off to graduate
school at the University of Michigan where he enrolled in the biopsychology
program and worked with Bill Stebbins. Mitch accepted a post-doctoral
position at Indiana University to work with Dave Pisoni and Larry Humes in
order to explore his interests in human speech perception (Hale, 2011)
James Onken an AB psychology in the year 1980. in 1976, he arrived at
Washington University from his home in Minneapolis as an architecture
student. But in his second year he took Introduction to Psychology and then
Introduction to Experimental Psychology with Thomas Sandel; the chair of the
Psychology Department and Onken’s career plans changed course. So, he
decided to transfer out of the School of Architecture and continue studying
psychology with a course taught by Stephen Gaioni; the department’s animal
behaviorist at that time. He entered the graduate psychology program at
Northwestern University, receiving his Ph. D in 1984. (Corcoran, 2011)
Virgilio Enriquez was born in the Province of Bulacan, Philippines and
was formally initiated into psychology in 1963 when he started teaching at the
University of the Philippines (U.P.). In 1966, he left for the United States to
pursue a Masters, then later a Doctoral degree in Psychology at Northwestern
University at Evanston, Illinos. He established the Philippine Psychology
Research House (PPRH) which later became the Philippine Psychology Research
and Training House (PPRTH).Enriquez became a Chairman of the Department
of Psychology in 1977-1982 and awarded as the Outstanding Young Scientist
of the Philippines from the National Academy of Science in Technology in 1982.
He was also awarded as the National Achievement in the Social Sciences Award
in 1997d by the National Research Council of the Philippines for outstanding
contribution in the social sciences on a national level. (Pua and Marcelino,

Research Procedure
Each member looked for one professional psychologist for the entire
group through looking data in the internet. There are four (4) professional
psychologists they searched for their documentary and served as their research
respondents. They were to document the facts that they have gathered and
analyze to discover how their experiences empower them to achieve success.
Research Instrument
The instrument that the researchers used in this study is Documentary
analysis. The researchers need to understand and interpret the different
backgrounds of the chosen respondents, these respondents has the same lived
experiences in connection to the researchers’ study. The documents that the
researchers gathered will be used as their basis in conducting their study. It
represents as data to prove the reliability of their work.
