ELECTRIC CONSUMPTION MONITORING AND BILLING SYSTEM VIA QR CODE
Main Problem:
How can electric consumers analyze, monitor, and pay their overall monthly electrical bill with
ease?
Specific Problems:
a. Some consumers cannot know their electric bill without the help of an electrical practitioner to
read the Analog Electricity Meter Reader.
b. Traditional meter reading for linemens .
c. Weekly or daily data of electric consumption is not provided by the electric cooperative.
Causes of the Problem:
a. Some consumers lacks electrical-related knowledge or has no idea on how to convert the data
from analog meter reader to monthly electrical bill.
b. Consumers will wait for a month for an electrical practitioner to get the data from the analog
meter reader, or calling one for a schedule reading will result to expenses
c. Data of electric consumption is done by on monthly basis by the electric cooperative.
Effects of the Problems:
a. Electricity Consumers will still be reliant for electrical practitioners in knowing their electrical
bills.
b. Electricity Consumers will have a hard time tracking their electrical consumption whether it has
high or low decrease and increase.
c. Simple adjustments and power saving measures is difficult to be done by the consumers if there is
no data to keep track of.
RATIONALE PAPER Topic No. 2
I. General Subject Area: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, PROGRAMMING, AND ELECTRONICS=
II. Specific Topic: ELECTRICITY METER READERS
III. Definition of the Topic
a. Importance and Significance (Rationale)
b. What are your reasons for conducting this study?
What motivates you to do this research study?
To innovate the vision of simply seeing the electrical consumption with accurate
daily basis analysis in which it can help consumers in adjusting or track on why they
monthly data bill resulted to that given amount, and also given the pandemic situation the
world is experiencing today, resiliency must still be considered, including innovations for
contactless payments, that greatly reduced the amount of risk of virus transmissions.
c. Manageability (Scope and Limitation)
Is the research topic within your capability?
What: A meter reader has two types, digital and analog, in this study, the researchers tends
to develop a system for electric consumption and monitoring with the use of qr code for a
specific area.
Who: The users of this are the electric cooperative company and electric consumers in
which they can bot benefit from faster and efficient transactions, and system of operation.
Where: The system can be used on Electrical Systems that reads electrical consumptions
When: The idea of creating a system that gives analysis of power usage initially started as an
analysis of daily power usage given the fact that mostly, in the Philippines specifically in
remote areas, analog meter readers are still used, while also considering the pandemic
situation, with thorough deliberations of the researchers, contactless payments are added
where also added as function to take place for the system to be used by consumers.
Why: The system is timely relevant because of the fact that we are experiencing a pandemic,
where everyone is situated at their home, increasing the amount of power usage, in which
data from daily consumptions can be greatly helpful for consumers to simply adjust their
power usage, and also the contactless payment, which can help reduce COVID-19
transmissions.
How: Analyses day-to-day electrical consumptions via mobile application through the use of
time graphs
d. Availability of Resources (sources of Information)
Where do you intend to get the information?
Primary Data: Survey forms (Can be done online using facebook or any social media
messaging app)
Secondary Data: Previous studies, Related Articles (from the internet), and similar studies
Others: Data Logs
IV. Expected Output/Objectives
What do you intend to accomplish?
General Objective:
The general objective of this study is to innovate a way in which electric consumers
can track their daily electrical consumption, and pay it monthly with ease, or without risk
of going outside for paying it.
Specific Objectives:
1. To improvise, and design a system that will let consumers track their electric
consumption on a daily basis.
2. To program an app for smartphones to monitor the given data from the improvised
meter reader that is also used for online payments.
3. To assess the effectivity and performance of the system.
