Safety and security are vital to providing quality in tourism. More than any other
economic activity, the success or failure of a tourism destination depends on being
able to provide a safe and secure environment for visitors.
2. Describe the impact of the world’s economy on tourism and hospitality.
Tourism leads to the creation of attractions, restaurants, entertainment, and better
services in a community. It has a positive impact on other industries too: agriculture,
transport, and manufacture. With positive effects on the local community, standards
of living in a local area can also rise.
Tourism is one of the biggest sectors in the services industry. Its size means that
whether you choose to remain in Canada after your studies to work, or you decide to
re-locate, there are established tourism employment opportunities in destinations as
far as Australia, Africa, the Middle East, and more.
3. Discuss the emerging tourism and hospitality markets.
An emerging market is a country that is experiencing high growth but with high risk.
For businesses, this means that these economies are growing and that investment put
into the country will return quickly. Although emerging markets constitute
approximately 80% of the global population, and represent about 20% of the world’s
economies (Heakal, 2015), they are expected to grow three times faster than
developed ones by 2020. For commerce and politics, these markets are very
important.
This is due to a new or growing investment in a tourism infrastructure. Emerging
markets are generally less expensive to travel in as well – basic living expenses like
food or accommodation tend to be cheap for our standards.
4. Discuss the impact of health issues on tourism and hospitality.
Whether health is a motivator to travel or as a contributor to disease transference it
can have a great impact on the hospitality and tourism industry. It can influence
social, financial, industrial, environmental, business and hospitality sectors in an
economy.
5. Analyze the impacts of climate change on tourism and hospitality.
Many types of tourism are weather dependent and by extension, climate dependent. It
is therefore very likely that climate change will affect your business area sooner or
later. Climate change can reduce snow cover, increase and prolong heat waves
or changethe patterns of annual rainfall for example.
The closure, delay, or cancellation of tourism attractions as a result of climate do not
only affects potentials visitors, but also can lower the reputation of the overall image
of a destination. Climate change also impact hospitality and tourism employment.
