What is an application?

 It is a computer program/software designed to help people perform a task


 Examples include:
 a word processor,
 a spreadsheet,
 an accounting application,
 a web browser,
 a media player,
 an aeronautical flight simulator,
 a console game or
 a photo editor.
 It may be bundled with a computer or sold seperately
TYPES:

Information worker software – lets users create and manage information for projects within a certain
department (WORKPLACE SOFTWARE)
Entertainment software – allows experiencing entertainment through a computing device (video games,
media players)
Educational software – allows users to read and consume educational pieces, mostly educators and
students
Simulation software – simulates physical or abstract concepts for research, training, or entertainment
purposes
Enterprise software – allows management of an entire organization's data and processes across several
departments
Product engineering software – aids in the design of hardware and software products
Media development software – generates media for others to consume. (MAIN FOCUS)
Examples of MDS:
 graphic-art software, desktop publishing software, multimedia development software, HTML editors,
digital-animation editors, digital audio and video composition
