There have been many creative event ideas executed throughout higher education and the
JMU community. Here are some of our favorites that can be adapted to fit your group’s interests
and goals.
Art Class – Is there anyone on your team who has a unique art skill that can be taught via
video? Be sure to theme creations based on JMU or your specific group!

place of interest to your event attendees?

home!
Faculty Talk – is there a special faculty member loved by alumni who can give an update
from the field?
Interview / Q&A Sessions – Use this format to keep event attendees informed, create
excitement for what’s to come and understand what is top of mind for your audience
Performances – Is there anyone in your organization with musical talents?
Pride Challenges – Create fun challenges like wear purple on Fridays or post a picture of
your pet for event attendees to engage throughout the week.

Sip and Stretch Class – Another great option to get your event attendee’s moving and
connect!
o Yoga ending with a happy hour
Scavenger Hunts – Create fun challenges for event attendees to connect via social media
and complete for prizes

Trivia – Use trivia as a fun way to teach event attendees of your group’s mission. An
office favorite to use is Kahoot!
Virtual Cooking Class – Be unique with your menu choice by showcasing JMU classics
or different types of food. We saw this done best with the Denver Dukes alumni chapter
making homemade empanadas!
