Question 1 :

A manufacturer wishes to determine the number of tables and chairs to be made by him in order to
optimize the use of his available resources. These products utilize two different types of timber and
he has on hand 2000 board feet of the first type and 1500 board feet of the second type. He has
1000 manhours available for the total job. Each table and chair requires 4 and 2 board feet
respectively for the first type of timber, and 3 and 5 board feet of the second type. 5 manhours are
required to make a table and 3 manhours are required to make a chair. The manufacturer makes a
profit of Rs 50 on a table and Rs 30 on a chair. Formulate the above as a linear programming
problem.

Question2:

A firm manufactures two types of product A and B and sells them at a profit of Rs3/- on A and Rs4/-
on B. Each product is processed on two machines X and Y. Product A requires 2 minutes of
processing time on machine X and 1 minute on Machine Y. Product 2 requires 3 minutes on Machine
X and 2 minutes on Y. The machine X is available for not more than 7 hours and 30 minutes while
Machine Y is available for 12 hours during any working day. Formulate the problem as a Linear
programming problem.

Question3:

Peter wants to buy some hens for himself and has Rs2000/-. The old hens can be bought for Rs 50
each while the young ones cost Rs 100 each. An old hen lays 20 eggs per week each and the young
ones lay 60 eggs per week each, the eggs being sold at Rs 1/- each. The feed for young and old hens
costs Rs 10/- and Rs 6/- respectively per hen per week. How many of each kind of hens should Peter
buy in order to earn a weekly profit of more than Rs500/-. Formulate this problem as a linear
programming problem.

Question 4:

Ram wants to decide the constituents of a diet which will fulfill his daily requirement of fats,
proteins and carbohydrates at minimum cost. The choice is to be made from three types of
food. The yield per unit of these foods is given in the following table.
