2.4The Negative Impact of Information Technology
The negative impact of Information Technology in 21st century and its aspect in our
day to day life is mentioned below –
Reduced face-to-face interaction
People nowadays prefer internet communication to face-to-face
communication, therefore they are becoming more individualistic and
introverted. Another limitation is that we can't utilize e-mail or social networking
sites to express our feelings or say what we really want to say. As a result, we
needed to communicate with them face to face in order to explain our true
feelings. (Bronzan, 2019)
Social Disconnect
Although the internet has reduced physical distances between individuals, it
does not mean that it has brought everyone closer together, and in some ways,
emotional distance has increased. People are always occupied with their own
virtual worlds in order to pass the time. They become a formality and forget
about the real world with family and friends. Children are also spending more
time in the virtual world and adopting negative views, resulting in an increase
in cybercrime and extramarital affairs due to the usage of Information
Technology devices. (Bronzan, 2019)
Reduced physical activity/Health Problems
The usage of Information Technology gadgets may persuade users to adopt a
more sedentary lifestyle. Because of the constant use, this can create health
issues such as headaches, obesity, heart disease, diabetes, repetitive strain
injury or eyestrain, incorrect posture/position, neck pain, physical and mental
stress, and so on. Children are stretched by playing online games and watching
cartoons, which may prevent them from going outside and making them fearful
of conversing with other children. There is a lack of physical activity in this type
of lifestyle, which puts our health at risk. (Bronzan, 2019)
11 | P a g e
Cost
Many information technology devices are quite pricey. As a result, they are both
inexpensive to buy and maintain. Due to educational institutions, poor pupils
are unable to profit from e-learning. (Bronzan, 2019)
Job loss
Job losses may arise as a result of automation replacing manual tasks.
(Bronzan, 2019)
Security/loss of privacy
Each Information Technology device is connected to the Internet and is
powered by a unique technology. Data must be protected from virus attacks
and other forms of malware, which are released on a daily basis. Personal data
may be lost if you use a social networking website. When we use Net banking
or make an online payment, we run the danger of losing our money to
scammers. (Bronzan, 2019)
