The Ultimate Law of Magick
Everything that you desire already is locked up in a vault, and this can be opened
to you in several ways. Sometimes, the universe will just give it to you, no
questions asked. You will think of what you want, and some short or long time
later, it simply shows up.
Yet, every wish has its price, and we do not always have the luxury of being able
to determine the cost. Pacts can be written, offerings can be made, but there
almost always will be a fine print of that we will be unaware of until the act is
completed and it is too late.
Each action we take in the magickal sense has its cost. Be it time, health, and
even sanity in some rare cases. The universe has its price, and we cannot act as
though we are above this law.
Ultimately, to understand magick is to understand yourself. Your emotions,
psychological processes, your triggers, motivations, etc. One can practice magick
purely for the practical side, to change and morph reality into the shape that you
desire it to be. But there also lies within this journey upon the left hand path
the will to go far beyond the practical and delve into the deepest parts of your
psycho-spiritual anatomy.
Yet, unless one can focus on the second side, and arguably the more important side,
by which we can begin understanding ourselves and transmute the deeper parts of the
subconscious. The side by which we can eliminate the pollution that has been fed to
our egos since we passed through the birth canal and fully entered this world in
physical form.
Maybe the ultimate cost of magick is to forget our fears and transmute ourselves
into who we are meant to be.

On Chaos Magick
CHAOS MAGICK
“The chaote, or ‘Chaos Magician’ is the purest of the magi. She is the star seeker,
the one who crosses endless deserts in search of enlightenment. She knows no
borders that contain her, no boundaries that bind her. For she is the walker of the
boundaries, the hedge-rider. One foot is on either side, blending body and spirit
in a devious flirtation with the veil of Maya.”
Chaos Magick is a meta-system that provides the magician, witch, sorceress, etc
with the freedom of experimentation and creativity while allowing for the
discarding of limiting beliefs. It focuses on a concept known paradigm (model)
shifting, advocating for the implementation of a “blank slate” approach. Any
technique, religious doctrine, or world view can technically be sufficient enough
to achieve the goals of the individual or of the group/coven. Any approach or model
utilized ultimately requires complete belief in oneself and the system(s), as well
as the utmost excellence in applying said technique. Ultimately belief is the most
important tool which validates said techniques and rules of the model.
Although Chaos Magick adheres to no one specific dogma, deity, or religion, it does
imply that certain principles are acknowledged while at the same time adhering to
the philosophy “Nothing is true and everything is permitted”. As the late Aleister
Crowley gave us: “Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the law”. While this does
imply that their are no limitations for the magician within this system, it is
expected that personal excellence shall be exercised to achieve optimum results.
This viewpoint does provides a exquisite freedom to achieve said results, while
this particular course focuses on the creation and practical application of sigil
magick. However, one should be careful in his or her actions, as it is not a free
pass to act completely as one wishes.
For the magician must take heed to follow some moral code and respect the sanctity
of life in general, whether it be flora or fauna.
While one is completely free to incorporate techniques from as many or as few
systems as they wish, personal excellence and a system of ethics should be adhered
to at all times. A “D.I.Y.” approach is greatly encouraged, but complacency and
lack of care are not. We are walkers on the Left-hand path, and as such we should
set ourselves apart from the rest of the world. Acting to destroy or disregard the
sanctity of nature is equally akin to biting the hand that feeds you; for if magick
is the gift of nature, then to abuse nature is to abuse her gifts. Such abusers are
unworthy of the gift and will find their punishment to be justified according to
the offense(s).
While the official history and origin of this system is fairly recent, Chaos
Magick’s roots run deep and are grounded in the very basis of magick and shamanism.
It is a model that incorporates many fields, including psychology, quantum
physics, theurgy, and spiritual alchemy. Although the term “chaos magick” may spark
extreme scrutiny or disdain, we must remember it is only a label by which we
identify the spectrum of thought and defining it solely by the label would mean
undermining the sheer power of what it truly represents: freedom from any pre-
conceived notions of what magick is. If a model no longer serves you, then either
discard it for a more relevant model or form your own.
Chaos magic, while not considered a system in itself it can be viewed as an all-
encompassing approach, philosophy , or a “meta model” that encourages a high level
of freedom in the realms of experimentation, play, and creativity while at the same
time allowing the magician to discard cumbersome rules and limitations. It
ultimately derives from the philosophy that the techniques employed are more
important than the symbols, and that our beliefs in both our own selves rather than
a certain paradigm is what truly matters for achieving a successful outcome. It is
a practical approach that encourages freedom of will, expression and belief in
one’s on projection of desire/will.
The ultimate idea is to experiment with different sets of techniques and discover
for yourself whether or not they work. This is to foster creativity and a spirit of
inventiveness, putting emphasis on results in order to “prove” a given set of
techniques or approaches, no matter how outlandish they might be.
Chaos magick as we now define it was first developed in England in the mid-1970s
during a period when British occultism was being dominated by ceremonial-based
magick traditions such as Wicca and Thelema. The progenitors : Ray Sherwin, Peter
Carrol, and Phil Hine, drew upon profound sources such Austin Osman Spare and
Aleister Crowley, desiring to strip away unnecessary details in order to distill
magick down to something much less detail-oriented and hands-on. Much like Austin
Spare, their techniques were tangible and practical for causing noticeable effects
to occur within their physical reality. As Carrol and Sherwin are credited as the
creators of the chaos magick movement, their writings on the subject are considered
standard reading for those who are seeking to learn its principles and
applications.
Most of their work, including the increasingly more mainstream techniques of sigil
magick implemented Spare’s methods, as well as drawing upon the spiritual ancestors
of magick (Shamanism and Animism). Although Crowley’s influence might be considered
marginal by some, his outlandish approach to magick and the occult is more than
noticeable to those who would open their eyes, especially his emphasis on wild
experimentation, discarding burdensome restrictions, and de-conditioning.
Magick and Shamanism
Carroll makes this clear in Liber Null the influence of shamanism upon the Chaos
Magick movement as well as other systems:
“When stripped of local symbolism and terminology, all systems show a remarkable
uniformity of method. This is because all systems ultimately derive from the
tradition of Shamanism.”
Archaeological evidence dates the use of psychoactive plants in human culture for
at least 50,000 years. The shamanic peoples from Siberia to South America would
ingest sometimes poisonous plants in order to heal, communicate with ancestors,
meet with spirit animals and journey into a separate realm of consciousness. They
understood the properties of the hidden realms, even acknowledging them as the true
reality and our daily world as a dream, in order to maintain balance and order
among their people. These respected men and women of medicine possessed the power
to transform into the guise of animals, quite often as vultures and other powerful
[Link] paleolithic ancestors took these spiritual journeys, while shrouded in
the darkness of the jungles, forests and caves with the use of the gifts of mother
Gaia in order to learn her secrets.
Shamanism is one of the oldest and religious traditions, vestiges of which still
underlie the major religious faiths of the modern world. The function of the shaman
is to show his or her people the unseen powers behind the mere appearances of
nature, as experienced through intuition, in trance states, or during ecstatic
mystical visions. Shamans possess healing powers, communicate with the dead and the
world beyond, and influence the weather and movements of hunting animals. The
practice has remained strong through its provenance in disparate tribal cultures,
many of which had little to no contact for centuries, while maintaining very
similar traditions, beliefs, and rituals.
The shaman showed his or her people the unseen spirits and gods that exist beyond
the Veil of Maya, through which he or she would enter in trance-like or gnostic
states with the aid of psychoactive plants. Their link to this world beyond that of
our “shadowy” existence allowed them to contact the spirits of deceased ancestors,
obtain insight into healing the sick, and to pre-empt harsh changes in the weather
and survival conditions. In short, the shaman was and was an essential pillar to
the tribes of the upper paleolithic and the neolithic. The shaman communicated with
other worlds in the symbolic language of the subconscious, making the
anthropomorphic and bizarre enter into the existence of our physical realm.
Though we may not be willing or destined to take upon ourselves the mantle of
healer or shaman, we too may gain access to the worlds that lie hidden beyond the
veil of maya, in order to communicate with our primal selves. In many ways doing so
means claiming our paleolithic birth-right. Achieving access to the dormant spark
of our ancient ancestors is a means by which we can communicate with our true
selves and restore the broken link of power that we thought could not exist.
In our dreams, the denizens of unknown realms call out to us, our ancestors and
spirit guides seek to reach out through obscure messages. We would be foolish to
not reach out to the inheritance they wish to bestow upon us. They key to altering
ourselves and experience the hidden secrets of a universe not bound by our human
laws of physics is waiting to transform us. All we must do is take the first step
and reach out.
We carry the memories of our ancestors, buried deep within our genetic code. These
memories are much deeper than the simple physics of our environment that we
understand as infants and young toddlers. The answers lie within our dreams, a
special code entangled among the electric ocean of spinning thoughts, fears and
[Link] answers long to reach out to us with fragile hands, coded into the
veil of a nearly forgotten enigma.
Accessing and decoding this information by means of connecting with our ancestors
is something that is not completely out of reach, only neglected. Even coming to
terms with the pathway of our soul and re-discovering the wisdom it possesses,
while it may take copious amounts of diligence and tenacity, is entirely possible.
Keeping one foot in the spirit world will keep you “plugged in” to a powerful
generator, enabling your magickal batteries to maintain longer and more potent
charges.
Models and Programming Reality
“There are many holographic concepts in shamanistic thinking as
well. The Hawaiian kahunas say that everything in the universe is infinitely
interconnected and that this inter-connectivity can almost be thought of as a web.
The shaman, recognizing the inter-connectedness of all things, sees himself at the
center of this web and thus capable of affecting every other part of the universe
(it is interesting to note that the concept of maya is also frequently likened to a
web in Hindu thought).”
-Michael Talbot, From The Holographic Universe
We can also derive as explanations for how we apply magick and how it affects us
into one four models: spirit, psychological, energy, information, and a fifth model
known as the meta-model, which by itself is not a solitary model but a web of sorts
which we can connect the other four. It is important to note that these models are
neither concrete, objective, or even all-inclusive, as the disciplines of the
occult sciences and ocean of the human subconscious still remain vastly unexplored.
These are also theories if you will, or rather subjective viewpoints placed onto a
larger framework of a somewhat collective experience attempting to explain what
magick and the paranormal are, along their causes and effects. All have strong
merit and can be applied with equal or varying degrees of force through the meta-
model, by which the magus can operate effectively
Magickal trance (altered or gnostic states), use of symbols via sensory input,
subtle suggestion, are used to condition or the unconscious self in order for the
intentions of the will cast upon the canvas of reality to do its job properly (I.e.
meet the desired conditions of the caster or magus) While it is not necessarily a
means by which we can explain how magick works or operates, it does imply that
sensory input and altered/gnostic states are tools used as a means of bypassing the
conscious barrier of the polluted ego-filter and the underlying unconscious self
which sets the right conditions for success into motion.
The magician is able to program and utilize the symbolic nature of her unconscious
self/selves by relying on the energies that exist outside of physical perception as
well as the psychic manifestations of her own self or selves. Entities such as
demons, gods, angels and the can be likened to manifestations of the separate
selves which can be employed as symbolic aids.
As magick is deeply rooted in paleolithic practices of animism and shamanism;
energy information, spirits, and psychological manifestations are deeply
intertwined. Every living thing has a spirit which we can interact with, but can be
interpreted using any of the models available to us. They are often viewed as
omnipotent or even omnipresent beings with their own agendas and not bound by the
earthly nature of duality. Through prayer, invoking, pressure, etc we are able to
either enlist their aid or even attempt to force them to comply with demands. While
in altered trance states/ecstatic states, induced by psychoactive plants or
otherwise, we have the ability to enter into the otherworldly regions and commune
with such entities.
Ultimately, it truly does not matter how you define magick, only that you strive
to use it to improve both yourself and your reality. You will never achieve
anything by being an arm-chair magician or witch, and magick will bring you nothing
if you are not willing to actively participate in the changes taking place.
Sometimes, what you need will quite literally come to you. Most of the time, you
need to turn over some stones. Energy sent out in the form of the will’s conscious
projection do not have to adhere to any timeline, and the universe almost always
wants something in return for what it gives you.
So, can magick even really employed to meet the basic needs, such as food and
shelter? Can it be utilized to help your communication, creativity, love-life and
sense of self-worth? What about a greater sense of purpose, your spiritual calling
and discovering the reason for your existence? The short and uncomplicated answer
is yes. But that “yes” is held together by hundreds of layers of reasoning and
introspection. While magick should not be used to condone detrimental lifestyles
such as gluttony, sloth and greed, we can most certainly find solace in the
evidence that we can at the very least nudge (if not shove vehemently) the
circumstances towards a more favorable outcome for ourselves. With much practice,
we can experience the most favorable outcome based on our current world view and
circumstances.

Magick and Psycho-Spiritual Alchemy
[Link]
For centuries, both history and fiction have given us romantic whispers of the
mystical Philosopher’s Stone, a mystic essence that could transmute lead into gold
and even make mankind immortal.
In Hermetic magical systems, the quest for this stone is referred to the Great
Work, an a journey in which the magician must undergo a self-initiation which
ultimately leads towards a spiritual transcendence in its entirety. In short: the
purification of one’s awareness.
The goal of the mage is to be concerned with the transformation of the shadow
personality and its flaws, to become aware of the light body and tap into the
unobstructed consciousness which has been waiting to be acknowledged.

The Law of the Monkey’s Paw
One lonely winter’s night, an elderly man, Mr. White, is at home with his wife and
his son, enjoying a game of chess. An old friend and sergeant-major named Morris
pays a visit, and recounts to the White family his experiences serving in the
British Army in India. He then proceeds to show them a talisman he is carrying: a
mummified monkey’s paw, which an Indian holy man had placed a enchantment upon,
thus allowing three separate men each to bid three wishes of the strange object.
Morris then tells Mr. White that the first man who had three wishes of the paw
asked for death as his final wish; which explains how Morris came to own the
talisman. However, he never reveals what three wishes he himself asked from the
paw. Morris then advises White not to take the paw from him, and proceeds to
hastily throw the monkey’s paw on the fire in an attempt to prevent his
acquaintance from taking it. However, White frantically retrieves the paw from the
flames. After Morris has left, White wishes upon the paw, asking it for two hundred
pounds.
The next morning, Herbert, the son, leaves, and both Mr White and his wife discuss
the wish made the previous night. Later on in the day, a well dressed man turns up
at the White’s residence, bearing some quite grim news. Herbert had been victim of
an accident at work earlier that day, resulting in his tragic death. The man, who
is representing the firm for which Herbert worked, reveals that the company would
like to offer a sum of money to the Whites as compensation for the accident, in the
amount of two hundred pounds.
A few weeks later The Whites have buried their son Herbert, and are in intense
grief. One dark night, Mrs White wakes her husband in desperation, pleading for him
to fetch the monkey’s paw and to use it to make one final wish: for their deceased
son to return to life.
Mr. White is quite reluctant to appease his wife’s plea, but agrees hesitantly. He
makes his wish upon on the monkey’s paw, that their son might be restored to life,
and afterwards they both remain awake, waiting. Then, some time after, there comes
a knock at the door, and Mrs White, identifying the figure at the door as her once
deceased son, begs her husband to open it and let him him. But as the thing at the
door is frantically grappling with the door to enter the home, Mr White realizes in
terror that the reanimated corpse at the door is not truly their son, and quickly
grabs the monkey’s paw to make his third and final wish. The noise at the door
finally stops, and he opens it to find the road outside is now deserted.
–A summary of W. W. Jacobs’s The Monkey’s Paw
We can glean at one invaluable lesson from this grim tale: Every wish has its
price, and we do not always have the luxury of being able to determine the cost.
Pacts can be written, offerings can be made, but there almost always will be a fine
print of the contract that we will be unaware of until the act is completed and it
is too late.
Am I saying that the entity you will be dealing with will require the blood of your
first born child? Most likely not. Will you even need to offer blood at all? Maybe,
but it should be done responsibly. What you are invoking/evoking/summoning to
request aid will most likely always comply with your request so as long as it is
shown the proper respect, and a less than desirable outcome will occur in the event
that you are not prepared to pay the [Link] has been my experience that these
beings will both already be aware of the fact that you cannot afford the price and
never have malevolent intentions. I have sought the aid of several “dark” beings
and not a single time did they seek to cause harm to me or any of my loved ones. If
you are an individual that does see things divided down the middle and black and
white, no judgement. But most of what we are dealing with, that has no human origin
at least, possesses an intelligence that surpasses the dual nature of good and evil
that blankets humanity.
Now when it comes to cost, it exists to maintain a balance. What you desire already
is locked up in a vault somewhere, and this can come to you in several ways.
Sometimes, the universe will just give it to you, no questions asked. You will
think of what you want, and some short or long time later, it simply shows up
We are shadow bodies projected from “higher” light bodies, and our actions
correspond with the light bodies just as the actions of the light bodies correspond
with the shadow. Our light bodies can act on behalf of the shadow, and conversely,
the shadow bodies can act on the behalf of the light bodies.
Each action we take in the magickal sense has its cost. Be it time, health, and
even sanity in some rare cases. The universe has its price, and we cannot act as
though we are above this law.
We are acting as vessels of our astral selves, shadowy projections of separate and
true entities. The realm in which these separate selves exist and act is both
adjacent to ours and quite distant, so untouchable and the same time its exists
within a finger’s length. It is above us, below us, and intertwined. As we act in
this realm so do our separate selves, and as our separate selves act, so do we. For
the purposes of this text this separate and magickal self shall be referred to as
the light body, and the earthly self as the shadow body.
For the light body is the shadow body, and vice versa . It knows and lives every
aspect of us, for our shadow bodies are projections of it. It acts on our behalf in
several ways, including performing magickal acts. It also can feel pain, grow
fatigued, require nourishment, and become ill. When we as practitioners of the
magickal art cannot seem to cast successfully, or feel drained of our energy, it
most likely is due to the fact that our light bodies are in a period of rest or
incubation.
Times of stagnation, creative blockages, or a feeling of lack in magickal powers
might be due to our light bodies needing rest from damage, illness or over
exertion. Our light bodies are like the core of batteries, and exist both
separately and conjunctly with us. In the combined sense, we are the insulators for
this powerful core which can manifest copious amounts of energy. Yet, while the
energy is vast, it is not limitless. Recharging is necessary.
This is an example of a sacrifice that must be made, and can take a toll on the
shadow body as [Link] are the light body, and the light body is the shadow. What
occurs adjacently also can be felt on the plane in which we are currently
experiencing the physical senses.
Aleister Crowley stated that the real magician’s circle is the aura of the magus.
It is a “soap bubble of razor steel, streaming with light from within”.
As manipulators of this energy, there certainly exists risks of indirect siphoning
of the magnetic auras which emanate externally from our shadow bodies. For this
magnetic aura is also an extension of the light bodies which are a part of us.
Whether is is made of the same electromagnetic elements as the rest of the physical
world or something else, I am not qualified to answer.
What I can say is that we are constantly emitting this energy like a radio signal.
It can be felt at different degrees and in some cases even seen. It can act as a
medium for emotions, thoughts, desires, etc. And not only can it interfere with the
auras of the humans we interact with on earth, other things not human can easily
pick up on it as well and draw from its energy.
Some entities will require this energy as a sacrifice, making it all the more
imperative that we protect this precious energy and take care to allow it to
replenish when we feel drained. Over use can manifest as exhaustion, illness,
strain, as well as other damage; this is includes physical, emotional, and
psychological.
This makes sacrificing the energy of the aura possibly the greatest risk the
practitioner can take. This wellspring of magnetic energy is the most precious part
of the self that we possess. It is energy of both the light and shadow body
emanating outward and affecting everything else that exists in the electromagnetic
field which permeates this universe and affects other universes in which we come
into contact with.
Always remember: if any law was ever true about magick, it is that nothing can be
gained without sacrificing something else.
For in order to gain anything, one must be willing to give up everything.

May 13th Devotional
Today begins the Celtic month of Huath, or hawthorn. Along with oak and ash, the
hawthorn is said to be one of the three trees through which we can access the fairy
realm. It is associated with chastity, which is related to the pure of heart and
childlike open-mindedness.
Hawthorn’s flowering marks the beginning of the light half of the year in the
Northern Hemisphere, but the lovely flowers and foliage mask a sharp thorn.
Hawthorn represents beauty and light, but also caution.
Invocation to the Green Man of the Hawthorn Tree
"Hail, Green Man of the Spring!
Hawthorn of the Day of Love
Whose great thorns stab and slice
As painfully as the bonds of Love
Do to our hearts.
That which gives the greatest joy
Must also give the greatest pain,
If only in its absence,
And this is a truth you teach us,
Highest ring on the Maypole,
Overseer of the greening games,
Watcher over the loving couples."

Goddess of Blessings
Make some simple Goddess figurines or images of leaves and flowers out of air-
hardening clay, available at craft stores.
One simple way to do this is to roll a ball of clay about the size of a marble,
then press it flat into your palm. Then take a button or stamp that has a flower,
fairy, or spiral design on it and press it into the clay.
Or mold the clay into any shape, like a Venus of Willendorf goddess. Make a dozen
or so, then let them dry.
Carry your little figurines with you wherever you go, and leave them as
blessings wherever you feel called to do so. For example, if you come across a
person who could use a little magic, press the little goddess into their palm with
a smile.
