JS PROM PROGRAMME

EMCEES’ SCRIPT

INTRODUCTION

D: Good evening …. ladies and gentlemen! Good evening, Kathleen

K: Good evening, too, Daniella! You look so stunning tonight.

D: Thanks and I can return the favor to you right away for you look so gorgeous in time for this
occasion.

K: Well…. There are one hundred and one reasons of getting dressed up elegantly and ravishingly
tonight.

D: You bet, Kathleen. Tonight, is one of the highlights of SVDPA co-curricular events in the
pantheon of social graces & gregariousness!

K: WELCOME TO THE MICRO ASIA COLLEGE OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY JUNIOR-SENIOR

PROMENADE 2019!

D: The much-awaited social gathering of the junior and senior students of our school
as they are poised for take-off to the world of fashion, fad & craze!

K: Talking about fashion, fad and craze…. are you familiar with the red-carpet premiere in
international entertainment?

D: Yes, definitely, Kathleen! A red-carpet premiere is the meeting of the stellar cast of whatever
film genre to be promoted for initial world screening. Like the red-carpet premiere nights held in
Universal Studio and the famous Metro Goldwyn Mayer. The attendees of such gatherings….
what a power-house cast ever assembled!

K: Aside from paving the way for world cinema milestones, Red Carpet premiere is also anchored
on the annual international film & television recognition nights from the world-renowned
award-giving bodies like Academy Award, Cannes Film Festival, MTV Music Award, Golden
Globe Award and many others.

D: And tonight….to suffice the call of the occasion…...this year’s JS Prom is geared towards the Red-
Carpet Premiere as our thematic concept.

Grand Entrance

K: And without further ado…to kick the ball rolling, let’s paint this venue with colors and roll out
the red carpet for the grand entrance of juniors and seniors as they take a walk of fame.

D: Let’s give them a resonating applause!

K: and now let’s welcome the School Administration headed by our very own gorgeous, sexy, and
ever supportive school-president, Mam Sheryl T. De Guzman to be followed by the Faculty and
Staff of the High School Department headed by our very energetic and hard-working School
Principal, Sir Roy C. Ballesteros.

K: And… that wraps up the so-called SVDPA version of “Walk of Fame”. You guys are so hip and
fabulous.

D: And to formally commence this event, please rise and feel a few moments of solemnity for an
invocation to be led by Sir Nathan John Banaag, HUMSS 11 D Instructor.

Opening Prayer

K: Please remain standing and imbibe among ourselves the virtue of nationalism & patriotism
through the singing of Philippine National Anthem to be conducted by Ms. Ashley Agbanglo,
HUMSS II B Adviser.

National Anthem Denise Perez

D: You may now be seated.

K: Daniella, are you fond of watching red carpet premiere on velvet channel?

D: Yes. One of the most remarkable red-carpet premiere nights I have watched was the Moscow
Premiere of the Transformers: Dark of the Moon last June 2011. That event was highlighted by
classy entrance of Rosie Huntington-Whiteley with her sought-after Gucci gown. How about you
Kathleen? Any favorite actress or entertainer who graced a certain Red-Carpet premiere?

K: I remember the premiere night of the movie, “Black Swan” held in New York last year. Natalie
Portman, the winner of Academy Award Best Actress, added color to the event through her
jaw-dropping and breath-taking aura & style. She was simply fantastic during that night. Or
Megan Fox in promoting “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen” in various countries. Her higher
than high slits in all her gowns from Donna Karan to Herve Leroux, Alberta Ferretti to Roberto
Cavalli were strikingly amazing.

D: Very well said Kathleen. You really did your intensive research on that, didn’t you? How about
the “Eclipse Premiere Night”which was a Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, Taylor Lautner
sandwich! And to explain further the central idea of this evening’s soiree, let’s all welcome our
very own School Principal, Sir Roy C. Ballesteros for his opening Remarks, for her opening
remarks.

K: On her way to the red carpet and to the walk of fame, let’s give her a resounding applause!

Welcome Address

D: Thank you very much Sir for your inspiring message to all the attendees tonight. May your
words of wisdom be our moving spirit as we enjoy the night here in the Sulo Hotel. And now, to
inspire us more for her own words of wisdom, may we call on our very own School President,
please put your hands together for Ms. Sheryl T. De Guzman.

INSPIRATIONAL MESSAGE
K: Thank you so much mam for that very inspiring and wonderful message. By the way, Kathleen,
what do you think is the essence of this event?

K: Well… in my own angle of vision, every JS Prom signifies the celebration of awards and
achievements of our senior students and these legacies should be handed over to the deserving
and trustworthy inheritors…..who else? The junior students!

D: Very good! Aside from that, all the scholastic emblems held by seniors for one school year
should be bequeathed to their honorable recipients----those symbols of academic victories, co-
curricular triumphs and team-building upheavals.

K: At this juncture, let’s now move on to the bequeathal ceremony.

D: To begin with, may we call in YUJI GABRIEL E. TAZU & ________________ for the bequeathal of
the symbolic torch.

Turn-Over Ceremony

Symbolic Torch

D: Thank you Yuji and ____________….our role models of hope & enlightenment. May we request
the presence of Frances Espanola and Lawrence Cabiling for the turn-over of the Holy Bible.

D: Thank you Kathleen for recognizing our efforts to strive hard for academics. Our turnover
ceremony will not be complete if we don’t give stress to a cache of accomplishments of the
Student Council in various programs and projects. Towards the end of this School year, the SC
has left no stones unturned in empowering the student body and in serving the Vincentians in
every step of the way.

K: And such odyssey of service and leadership is about to end….to turn the hourglass upside down
for the new breed of student-leaders in the service of the Vincentians. And to make it
happen, may we hand in the microphones to the predecessor and the successor of
SVDPA leadership by example….SC President Karl Abellera and SC Vice President for Internal
Affairs Ralph Canoy for the passing of the golden key of responsibilities. Let’s give
them a nice big hand!

Key of Responsibilities Karl Vincent Abellera & Ralph Canoy

D: Thank you fellow SC Officers Karl & Ralph. We’re more than just halfway for this turnover stuff.
Furthermore, no JS Prom is considered memorable in the absence of candle-lighting ceremony.
Such ceremony symbolizes the hand-over of the candles to the next bearers so as to lead &
guide our school and its stakeholders in reaching their dreams and aspirations.

K: The flame atop of every paraffin elucidates the road to success of the outgoing seniors in the
next chapter of their academic career. At this point, let’s move onward and go forward to the
Candle-Lighting Ceremony. We would like to call in the selected juniors & seniors to be led by
Leonor Artillaga & Victoria Ilagan for the said ceremony. Let’s give them a warm round of
applause.

Candle-Lighting Ceremony
D: Thank you guys for participating in that ceremony. I am keeping my fingers crossed that we will
be successful in whatever chosen field to be undertaken in the near future.

K: And to my fellow juniors or should I say incoming seniors, may we fulfill our noble obligations to
our school in general and to our fellow schoolmates in particular for the next academic year.

K: One of the most-awaited parts of this event is the traditional cotillion de honor that serves as
the prelude to the dancing portion of the Prom.

K: And to showcase the gracefulness and the inclination of the Vincentians tonight, let’s now
welcome the Cotillion de Honor dancers under the supervision of Mr. JOHN RAY C. LABORCE.
Let’s give them a big hand with grace and poise!

Cotillion de Honor Selected 3rd Year & 4th Year Students

D: Thank you, cotillion de honor dancers for your awe-inspiring performance. You guys almost
moved heaven and earth in dancing!

D: At this point in time, I am quite sure that everyone is excited to get the taste of luscious &
sumptuous food to be served for dinner by the accommodating crew members of Sulo Hotel.

K: So before we prolong such “digestive revolution” inside us, May I request everyone to please
stand for the blessing of the food.

D: And now, we are now declaring with full force that….”IT’S EATING TIME!”

D: Let’s enjoy the food in observance of the table etiquette as usual. Happy Eating, everyone! Bon
appetite!

Dinner

K: Good evening once again! Is the food great? Still craving for another serving? Seemingly,
everyone enjoys taking dinner so as to be all-set for the next part of the program.

D: That’s right, Kathleen!

K: Gracefulness in social dances is probably included in the roster of specific legacies of the Senior
Class to be ceded to the Junior Class.

D: So now, let’s move on to the next part of our program, the dance performance Starting off with:

HUMSS, STEM, GAS, ICT, HE

D: And there have you have, the lovely dance performances of our Senior High School Students.

D: We’re almost done with the 4th part of this program. And to formally end this part and to move
on to the next exciting one, please join me in welcoming _____________ for his parting words.
Let’s give him a warm applause.

Parting Words

K: Thank you _____________for reminding us of the party’s dos and don’ts. We’ll take note of
that with no ifs and buts. This we promise you!
D: You know Kathleen…I am kinda dead-eager to the next part of the program. Young ladies….
let’s be in the know about our first dance partners for this evening.

K: So we should not keep their heels cool. So may we request everyone to please get your desired
partner as we commence the 1st Dance for this night.

Announcement of First Dance

D: For us to cut a mean rug & shake our bodies. In short, to dance the night away! Guys & gals,
let’s get ready because it’s party-party time!

Dance….Dance…Dance

K: Good evening once again, we would like to interrupt this dance party for a very special
announcement.

D: While we were having fun throughout the night, our distinguished Board of Judges started to
pick its choices for this year’s Prom King & Queen.

K: And we have now the results! To announce the Prom King and Queen for this year, we would
like to call in Ms./Mr. _________________, to do the honor. Let’s clap our hands for him!

Awarding Ceremony

D: Ladies and gentlemen, once again this is the MICRO ASIA COLLEGE OF SCIENCE AND
TECHNOLOGY JUNIOR AND SENIOR PREMANDE 2019. It was indeed a very spectacular and momentous
event for all of us here present in this very wonderful event. Once again this is Danreve Apostol, and
Micheal Renz Fallorin, your hosts for tonight, now signing off. HAVE A GOOD NIGHT EVEYRONE!

Events like JS Promenades shape senior high school students' perceptions of societal norms and expectations by modeling and reinforcing traditional rites of passage within a structured social event. These events emphasize the importance of formal attire, public speaking, and ceremonial practices, reflecting broader societal values such as respect for tradition, celebration of milestones, and acknowledgment of individual achievements. Through participation, students learn social etiquette and the value placed on ceremonial roles and appearances, which are central to societal interactions. This exposure helps form expectations regarding conduct and presentation in formal and professional contexts .

The ceremonies such as the Bequeathal Ceremony, Turnover of Responsibilities, and Candle-Lighting Ceremony are structured to promote leadership and continuity. These rituals symbolize the transfer of academic victories, leadership roles, and responsibilities from senior students to juniors. The symbolic torch and key of responsibilities emphasize the theme of enlightenment and accountability, fostering a culture of empowerment, support, and continuous service among students. Such events not only honor past achievements but also encourage incoming students to uphold these traditions and step into leadership roles actively .

The passing of symbolic items such as the torch and the Bible during the ceremony enriches the cultural fabric of the event by signifying enlightenment and moral uprightness, respectively. These traditions underscore the values of knowledge, guidance, and ethical conduct. The torch symbolizes the light of knowledge and leadership continuity, while the Bible represents spiritual guidance and moral responsibility. These symbols reinforce the educational institution's emphasis on the holistic development of its students, bridging academic achievement with personal growth and ethical ideals, thus embedding deeper cultural meanings into the event experience .

The emphasis on fashion and presentation at the JS Promenade through the 'Red-Carpet Premiere' theme impacts student identity by enhancing self-expression and boosting confidence. The glamour associated with dressing elegantly for such events reinforces social values around aesthetics and personal presentation, creating a hierarchy of attention based on appearance . This focus can influence social dynamics by shaping peer perceptions and interactions, contributing to one's reputation and status within the school context. It reflects a cultural engagement with celebrity culture, fostering aspirations tied to appearance and public recognition .

The JS Promenade supports a sense of community among participants through its various structured activities and ceremonies that emphasize collective experiences and shared goals. The invocation, national anthem, and group dances such as the Cotillion de Honor foster togetherness and cultural pride. Moments like the Turn-Over Ceremony and Candle-Lighting Ceremony explicitly symbolize passing down traditions and roles, reinforcing connections between different student groups. Such events encourage unity and continuity within the student body, celebrating both individual achievements and collective heritage .

The event structure balances between traditional formalities and modern entertainment by integrating ceremonies like the invocation, national anthem, and bequeathal ceremonies, with entertainment elements such as dance performances and the awarding of 'Prom King & Queen'. While traditional elements provide structure and solemnity, fostering respect and continuity of rituals, modern aspects like themed entries, dinner, and dancing address contemporary tastes and foster more dynamic interactions among attendees. This blend efficiently engages participants by honoring the past while celebrating current cultural trends and preferences .

The inclusion of an invocation and national anthem ceremony at the beginning of the event provides a moment of solemnity and respect, setting a reflective and respectful tone for the evening. The invocation allows attendees to engage in personal reflection or prayer, emphasizing values of humility and gratitude. Singing the national anthem instills a sense of patriotism and unity among attendees, connecting individuals through shared national pride. These activities serve to reinforce communal values of respect, unity, and patriotism while grounding the evening in a sense of tradition and cultural identity .

The awarding of titles like 'Prom King & Queen' plays a role in reinforcing social hierarchies and prestiges within the high school setting. These titles are often awarded based on peer votes, reflecting popularity and social standing among students. Winning such titles can offer validation and recognition, potentially affecting the self-esteem and social status of the recipients. This practice highlights and can enhance existing social structures, while also providing a celebratory culmination that acknowledges standout individuals in a social and festive context, enhancing the ceremonial and competitive aspects of the prom .

The concept of the ‘walk of fame’ during the event symbolically represents the students’ academic journey by celebrating personal achievements and peer recognition akin to how celebrities receive recognition on a literal Walk of Fame. As students make their grand entrance, the ceremonial act mirrors stepping into the spotlight, acknowledging their accomplishments and preparedness to transition into new phases of life. It ties the ceremonial practices to the idea of achieving milestones and highlights their readiness to take on future challenges, much like stars receiving accolades for their career milestones in entertainment .

The 'Red-Carpet Premiere' theme of the JS Promenade aligns with the broader cultural and social values of glamour, exclusivity, and prestige. By adopting a motif commonly associated with international film and television recognition events like the Academy Awards and Cannes Film Festival, the event positions itself within a framework of high status and celebratory awe. This theme underscores the importance of presentation and the achievement of milestones, as it mirrors the coming-of-age significance of a prom, celebrated with glamor akin to a Hollywood event .
