REFLECTION
On our topic in literary criticism, I realized how hard to criticized or analyze something.
You have to use different type of approach which also had different type of process. We group 4 was
tasked to analyze the story “The Gift of the Magi” and “A Rose for Emily”, but let us tackle first the
first story. In the gift of magi, I realized that the lesson of the story is true about society today. People
nowadays tend to sacrifice something or someone just to give or have something. Selfishness,
insincerity and being materialistic are the common problem of the society today which is properly
portrayed in the story. They tend to value things as a gift, ignoring the importance of the presence
and the gift of love which came from the heart.
The next story was “A Rose for Emily”. The story was intriguing and shocking. I also see it as
something gross, like who the hell would sleep with a rotten corpse? Though if the read the story,
you’ll understand why. The title itself was contradicting to the story itself. The rose represents beauty
and love, but in the story, Emily was ugly. Once you read the story you’ll realized that it is not good to
control the life the life of our sons and daughters. Making them depends on you, was like making
them miserable in life. Especially the great realization I got from the story is that we should mend
each other if they are stranger. We got different stories but we share the same life and existence.
In play production subject, we are tasked to create to create 2 video lessons and choose the
topic we want. One of our chosen topics is role-play. Role-play plays a vital role in the mastery of the
students. As what I understand and realized, it helps the students to showcase their understanding,
logical thinking, and their imagination. Role-play itself can bring the world inside the classroom. Also it
improves the memorization skill of the students, teamwork, self-confidence and friendly competition.
The other topic we chose is how to learn lines for a play. Lines are very important in a play. I
realized that one mistake is risky enough where you can lose your job. Imagine being the antagonist
or a protagonist, who always had a lot of lines, is hard to remember all. That is why techniques really
are important. It also required a good memory memorization to do the job, one mistake means a
retake. Also if you were memorizing a line, you must also aware of the emotion to be used, it is like
putting yourself into others shoe. Well it is not that hard if your paid and if it was your passion.
