• What Is a Sentence?

• A sentence is a group of words which expresses


a complete thought.
• A sentence must contain a subject, a verb and
a complement. (Direct object)
• Ex:
Daniel is a student.
It is a book.
We are Bolivians.
I am a teacher.
Mary is a doctor.

It is a book.
I am a teacher.
They are my friends.
The Present Continuous Tense

The present continuous tense
indicates that an action (verb) is in
progress. That means that an action is
happening now and may continue into
the future.
The Present Continuous Tense
Structure
Subject + verb + complement
Subject + to be verb + action verb(ING) + comp

Present Participal

I am working.
Daniel is studying English.
They are eating breakfast.
When do we use the present continuous?

First
We use the Present Continuous when we talk
about something that is happening at the
time of the speaking. These sentences can
use the time expressions:
Now – right now – at the moment.
Example:
I am working now.
Daniel is studying English at the moment.
We are looking at the board right now.
Second

We use the Present Continuous when we


need to talk about future plans using the
time expression of future.
Example:

They are cleaning the office in the afternoon.


Angel is going to La Paz tomorrow.
It is raining next weekend.
They aren’t cooking lunch next month.
I’m visiting to the dentist in the afternoon.
Beatriz is traveling to Brasil next year.
Most of the verbs don’t change when become
PRESENT PARTICIPLE
The girl is walking with her dog now.
My brother David is working right now.
The student is doing homework at
the moment.
My classmate Laura is listening to the
music in the park now.
Homer is watching TV now.
The children are playing soccer right now.
They are dancing in a party now.
What are you doing?

We are ………………… at the moment.


What is the girl doing?

She is walking with her


dog at the moment.

She’s not running.


What is my brother doing?

He is working now. He isn’t dancing.


Is the student watching TV?

No, he isn’t. The student is doing


homework at the moment.
Is Laura listening to the music in the
park?
Yes, she is. She isn’t eating ice-cream.
What is Homer doing now?

He is watching TV. He’s not taking a


shower.
The children aren’t studying.
They are playing soccer right now.
What are they doing?
They are dancing at the party now.
