5. What is the definition of pragmatics? Please find some example.

According to (All about Linguistics Group. (n.d).) pragmatics means “the study of the use

of linguistic signs, words and sentences, in actual situations.”

 I heart you!

In this case the word “heart” is not the name of the organ; otherwise, it means to

love or appreciate someone.

 Will you crack open the door? I am getting hot.

The literal meaning of “crack” is to destroy something, but in this case the speaker

wants someone to open the door only a little bit.

6. Look for a joke in English. Is this joke funny to you? Why or why not?

“Hey, I´m reading a book about anti-gravity, It´s impossible to put down!”

It is an unfunny joke because it is without humor. In addition, it is necessary to get certain

knowledge of science in order to understand the meaning of anti-gravity, and there are

many people that do not understand that
