Understandings
• Cooperating school refers to the public or private elementary / high school where the
teaching intern undergoes off campus teaching under a cooperating teacher who
assists him/her on his/her teaching stint.
• The cooperating school serves as a training ground or laboratory of teaching. The
prospective teacher gets the “feel” of the school and the “feel” of being a “real”
teacher.
• A teacher training program greatly depends on how well the internship program is
carried out in the cooperating schools.

The characteristics of cooperating school that nurture and inspire teacher participation:
friendly atmosphere where the learners and other members of the community live in
love, care, and understanding

safe and secure environment where the learners and other members of the community
are free from hazards, accidents, and other calamities.

positive and non-threatening environment where respect, fairness, support, and

communication are present in the entire school system
The Schools’ Vision / Mission

A clear vision and a common mission identify the learning to be aligned and achieved to
help the school, its staff, and students on target.

• Vision statement describes the school as it would appear in the future.

• Mission statements are the how to “statements” or action plans that help the school
achieve its vision. They prompt change and growth.
– Peterson, 1995

• Goals are statement of what needs to be accomplished to implement the strategy.

• Core Values are the fundamental beliefs of a person, school, or organization. These
guiding principles dictate behavior and help people to understand right or wrong.
These create an unwavering guide to determine if they are on the right path in
fulfilling their goals.

• Graduate Attributes are the qualities, skills, and understandings a school/

university community agrees its student should develop during their time with the
institution.

PERFORMANCE TASK 2: Complete the structured frame.

How can you concretize the school’s vision, mission, goals, and expected graduate
attributes in your lessons?

I can concretize the school’s VMG by looking at every single activity (sports trips,
extra curricular, hall policies, homework policies, teacher requirement, everything) and
see if each one reflects the mission. If not make changes. An outsider should be able to
look at any aspect of the school and see that the mission is being carried out there. When
a school goes through accreditation, this is one thing that is looked at committees help
when your gathering all this information.

PERFORMANCE TASK 3: Get a sample lesson that shows the VMS was integrated in the learning

Common questions

The vision statement of an educational institution serves as an aspirational description of what the institution intends to achieve in the long-term future, thus setting a strategic direction. This statement influences the school's policies, programs, and activities, ensuring that they align with desired future outcomes. By providing a clear and compelling goal, the vision statement helps unify stakeholders—teachers, students, parents, and the community—around a common purpose and encourages collective effort towards educational improvement and innovation. Consequently, it plays a critical role in guiding the institution's development and its adaptability to future challenges .

Understanding the cooperating school's profile is crucial for a teaching intern because it enables them to align their teaching practices with the institution's ethos, culture, and expectations. Awareness of the school's vision, mission, goals, and values helps interns tailor their instruction to support these outcomes. This understanding ensures that interns can integrate their teaching methods effectively into the school's existing framework, ultimately enhancing their professional development and the educational experience for students .

The vision, mission, goals, and core values of a school play a crucial role in creating a supportive learning environment by providing a clear framework and direction for all educational activities. The vision describes the long-term aspirations of the school, setting a future trajectory, while the mission outlines specific actions needed to achieve this vision. Goals specify concrete outcomes to guide policy and practice. Core values dictate the school's ethical standards and expected behaviors. Collectively, they ensure that the learning environment aligns with the school's overarching objectives, promoting a safe, inclusive, and motivational space for learners and educators alike .

Integrating ICT into lessons enhances the quality of teaching and learning by facilitating diverse, interactive, and personalized educational experiences. ICT tools can support differentiated instruction by catering to various learning styles and paces, thus ensuring that all students remain engaged. The use of multimedia resources can deepen understanding and retention of complex concepts. ICT also provides opportunities for collaborative learning through online platforms, fostering skills such as teamwork and communication. Additionally, the availability of digital tools for assessment and feedback streamlines the evaluation process and provides timely insights into student progress .

Performance tasks can be aligned with a school's learning outcomes by designing assessments that directly measure the competencies and skills outlined in the learning goals. This alignment involves using task criteria that reflect the desired educational outcomes, ensuring tasks are authentic and relevant to real-world applications of knowledge. By involving students in tasks that require critical thinking, problem-solving, and application of knowledge, educators can assess both the process and the product of learning. Regularly calibrating tasks with intended outcomes and using rubrics ensures transparent and equitable evaluation, thus enhancing educational effectiveness and accountability .

Teachers can integrate a school's vision, mission, and core values into their daily lesson plans by aligning lesson objectives and activities with these guiding statements. For instance, lesson activities can be designed to promote core values such as collaboration or critical thinking. Educators can also incorporate reflective exercises that relate back to the school's mission and vision, allowing students to see the relevance of their learning to larger educational goals. Furthermore, using thematic units that embody these principles helps ensure that the mission is visible and meaningful in everyday instruction, allowing for a holistic educational approach .

Core values play a crucial role in maintaining ethical standards and behavior within a school community by acting as guiding principles that dictate acceptable conduct and decision-making processes. They help establish a moral framework that influences the attitudes and actions of educational stakeholders, fostering an environment of respect, integrity, and fairness. Core values support the creation of a positive school culture, ensure consistency in policy and practice, and help prevent ethical dilemmas by providing a clear benchmark for evaluating actions and decisions. This consistent adherence to core values strengthens the overall ethical fabric of the institution .

A cooperating school that enhances the training program for prospective teachers typically exhibits several key characteristics. These include a friendly atmosphere that fosters love, care, and understanding; a safe and secure environment free from hazards; and a positive, non-threatening climate characterized by respect, fairness, and open communication. These elements create a supportive environment where student teachers can effectively develop their skills and understanding of real-world teaching dynamics .

To overcome apprehensions and boost confidence, a teaching intern can employ several strategies. Engaging in reflective practices to assess personal strengths and areas for improvement can be beneficial. Seeking mentorship and feedback from experienced educators provides guidance and support. Building a strong foundation through thorough lesson planning and preparation boosts self-assurance. Additionally, participating in professional development opportunities equips interns with new skills and techniques. Finally, fostering a positive mindset and setting realistic goals can help interns gradually build confidence and overcome fears related to the teaching profession .

Knowing students' characteristics and attitudes enables a teaching intern to tailor classroom management strategies and enhance teaching effectiveness. Understanding individual student needs allows for differentiated instruction and the creation of personalized learning experiences. This knowledge helps in establishing rapport, engaging students, and anticipating potential issues, thereby facilitating a positive and conducive learning atmosphere. Additionally, being aware of student dynamics aids in creating targeted interventions and fostering a supportive classroom environment .
