C.

Write an essay on the process you followed to create your project by doing the
following:
1. Describe the purpose for your original multimedia/hypermedia product.

My multimedia product is a video working through an equal groups word problem. In third

grade, students are required to develop equal groups from word problems. The video I have

created is an example of what will be expected from students when solving equal group word

problems.

2. Describe a target audience for the multimedia/hypermedia product.

My target audience for this multimedia product will be third graders. These 8-9 year old students

first begin to understand the foundational multiplication concepts in third grade. These students’

highest level of education is third grade and are approaching this new idea with prior knowledge

of addition. The content area being addressed in this lesson is math.

3. Identify the software you chose to create the product and rationalize your choice of this
software.

The software I have chosen to use for this product was Vimeo. This was my first experience with

Vimeo and it went rather smoothly. Vimeo allows for users to record their screen in real time

while continuing to demonstrate, recording any audio present. I chose to use Vimeo because it

allowed me, in real time, to use my computer’s tools to visually represent what I was saying. By

using this strategy, students are not only listening to verbal discussion, but are watching how a

spatial representation using drawing can assist when developing their own equal groups.
4. Discuss the process that you followed to create your multimedia/hypermedia product so
that someone else could follow your steps to create similar products.

Making this video was rather easy. First, locate the Google Chrome store. You will need to

search for Vimeo and add it as an extension to your toolbar. Next, open a Microsoft Paint blank

document. Insert a text box and type out your problem. After your problem has been typed into

your text box, click the Vimeo extension located in your toolbar and begin the recording. As I

was recording, I used the Scribble feature to underline and draw freehand throughout the

document. This was helpful because I could manipulate the cursor in any way without being

restricted. After I completed modelling, I ended the recording. I downloaded the recording onto

my Desktop and created a button on Weebly to hyperlink the URL so that my video would be

accessible to watch. I had to create a button because Weebly requires an upgrade to insert video.

D. Discuss the product’s conceptual framework process by doing the following:

1. Provide the conceptual framework (concept map) that helped you in the design and
development process (e.g., storyboard, flowchart, diagram).
2. Discuss how your conceptual framework helped you in your design and development
process.

I chose to write out the steps needed to teach students how to find and solve for the answer in a

word problem using equal groups because it told me where to proceed next. The steps provide

me with notes that I can glance down at that remind me what the most important ideas are at that

time. This helped me record my video by keeping me in order while modelling to the whole

group. Writing all the steps down before recording helps me remember what I am going to say

and highlights the most important ideas during that specific step. Creating the actual video took

less time than creating the concept map and the steps needed to solve a word problem using

equal groups.
