C. Introduction

Starting from the assignment given by the Community Service course lecturer to us

as Management and Science University students, we were given the obligation to

carry out A Helping Hand 2.0: Urban Poor, Charity 2021 activity as a form of

community service program. Community service is an activity of the academic

community that utilizes science and technology to advance the welfare of the

community and educate the nation's life [ CITATION Tri \l 2057 ]. Because we have

mutual respect for each other and the sense of empathy that exists, we plan to

create or carry out an activity where this activity can provide benefits and this

positive impact on people or society, then we students of Management and Science

University will carry out social service activities to Rumah Nur Sakinah.

Rumah Nur Sakinah is a housing and homeless shelter for the homeless people

especially for elderly people who do not have a place to live and no one to take care

of them [ CITATION Rum \l 2057 ]. This project was held to fulfill the final project of the

community service course. Held on 4 June 2021, located at Rumah Sakinah

4

Orphanage House, Shah Alam. Due to covid situation, this project can only be done

online to support social distancing activities and prevent the interaction of many

people. This project is to share happiness with others by giving donations to those in

need.

D. Objective

The objectives of this activity are as follows:

1. Shaping the character of students to be more sensitive to social problems in

society, so that students not only excel academically but also in character.

2. Create a sense of mutual respect, help, and care for each other by making

donations to alleviate the orphanage's financial burden.

3. Increase the sense of togetherness and give happiness to each other by

providing entertainment to them.

E. Preparation Before Project

Preparation before “A Helping Hand 2.0: Urban Poor, Charity 2021” was held, the

lecturers on our Community Service course gave different job descriptions to each

group. Our group and group 2 are responsible for buying groceries and designing

banners and stickers for the activities that we will be carrying out. After giving the job

description, we group members, along with other group members and the lecturer,

convened online to discuss the implementation of this activity. Furthermore,

coordination meetings were also held by the leaders of each group as well as our

lecturer.

The implementation of “A Helping Hand 2.0: Urban Poor Charity 2021” was altered

as a result of the Movement Control Order and the increasing number of Covid-19
5

cases. The original plan was to donate services and materials to the orphanage, but

we replaced it with a new plan that was carried out entirely online. Donations from

Community Service students are being collected in preparation for the online

programme with the Nur Sakinah Orphanage. When collecting donations, each

group looks for an orphanage with which they can communicate online. Finally, we

chose the Rumah Nur Sakinah orphanage because they had agreed to have their

activities carried out online.

F. Activity Conducted

Due to the Covid-19 situation and in order to maintain and support the project carried

out at the Nur Sakinah Orphanage House, it was held online, due to the Covid-19

situation. This activity is carried out on the Google Meet platform. This activity began

with the joining of all students on the Google Meet, and continued with MCs from

both parties to introduce themselves to each other and the program to be carried out.

After introductions from both parties, the event continued with a performance by

children from Orphanage House. The performance was showing the written work in

the form of a poster with the theme "MSU". Then the closing speech from both

parties and the virtual contribution from MSU indicated that the activities were

completed and running well.

G. Project Benefits for the Future

The following are the three points of this project that will be beneficial in the future:

1. Helping the Non-profit organizations

The first cause of any non-profit organization is to reduce poverty and suffering.

The ultimate goal is to help less fortunate people have a good life. Your act of
6

kindness will help these entities to buy clothes, medicine and also finance

schooling for kids.

2. Sense of satisfaction

By doing your part you are helping the foster house to provide education to kids.

This will help kids speak, read and write well, groom themselves, build their

character in the long run.

3. Helping to get them education

Donating can satisfy you mentally as well. Unless you do the act, it may seem

quite absurd to you. Once you do an act of kindness and see a smile on their

face, it will uplift your mood and spirit. There is a content feeling in giving.

H. Degree of Impact on the Community

The Covid-19 pandemic is compounding financial difficulty: clinical costs, lost pay,

and expenses related with extra childcare can intensify the impoverishment of

families. Money awards are a significant instrument for reducing neediness, and are

a basic piece of social security plots particularly in Malaysia. Be that as it may, an

effective technique to advance award access among potential recipients will be basic

to understanding the effect of these projects. The aftereffects of this investigation

propose that, with satisfactory preparation and backing for care laborers, home visits

can connect the weakest youngsters and families to this significant asset. Future

examinations could help distinguish different traits of home visiting, for example,

home guest needs evaluation practices or information on award qualification and

application prerequisites—that could adequately connect holes in award access.

I. Conclusion
7

As the assignment that given for the Community Service course, we need to do a

very helpful program that going to help the others. Our class activity is to help the

urban poor problem, with the activity called “A Helping Hand 2.0: Urban Poor,

Charity 2021”. This activity was successfully held on 4 June 2021 located at Rumah

Sakinah Orphanage House, Shah Alam. This activity has 3 main objectives, the first

is to shaping the character of the student to be more sensitive to social problems in

society, second is to create a sense of mutual respect, help, and care for each other

by making donations to alleviate the orphanage’s financial burden, and the last

objectives is to increase the sense of togetherness and give happiness to each other

by providing entertainment to them. There is some change for the preparation before

the activity due to the movement control order because of the increasing number of

COVID-19 cases. The activity should be held offline at first, but because of the covid

number that increasing, the activity is held through the online platform. The first

preparation is we need to collect donations, each group tries to find an orphanage

that can interact online, and we chose the Nur Sakinah Orphanage because they

had agreed with us to carry out their activities online. The online activity was held

through the Google Meet platform. This activity starts by joining all the student on the

online platform when all the participant already joins the platform, the main activity

starts and successfully finish until it completed. There are 3 project benefits for the

future, the first is to help the non-profit organizations, the second is to help them to

reach more education, and the last is to gain more sense of satisfaction. The

project's impact on the community is to help the others in this covid 19 pandemic.

This covid 19 pandemic is affecting all sectors especially for the financial. That is

why this activity is being held, in other to help people get through all the difficulty.

Common questions

Preparation involved assigning clear responsibilities, such as job descriptions for buying groceries and designing materials, conducting online coordination meetings, and ensuring all components for the event, such as technology and content, were ready. This organization was crucial to the smooth transition and execution of the project in an online format.

The project contributes to long-term benefits by helping non-profit organizations reduce poverty and offering continuous support for education. It assists orphanages in providing necessary resources, thus enabling children to build skills such as literacy and character development, and potentially reducing their future vulnerability.

Criteria included communication skills, teamwork, participation, subject knowledge, preparation and readiness, decision making, communication, professionalism, and peer evaluation. Each criterion was scored on a scale with specific descriptors for performance levels ranging from excellent to very poor, providing a comprehensive evaluation of student engagement and contribution.

The project aimed to reduce the orphanage's financial burden by providing donations that could be used for school supplies, thereby directly contributing to the children's education. It also sought to enhance their wellbeing by creating a sense of togetherness and providing them with entertainment, which aimed to give happiness and mental satisfaction both to the children and the volunteers.

The project's main objectives were to shape students' character to be more sensitive to social problems, create mutual respect and care by alleviating financial burdens with donations, and increase a sense of togetherness and happiness through entertainment. These objectives align with educational goals by fostering broad-mindedness, empathy, and social responsibility in students, encouraging both academic and character excellence.

The main challenge was the inability to conduct activities in person due to the Movement Control Order and rising Covid-19 cases. The organizers addressed this by shifting to an online format, selecting the Nur Sakinah Orphanage that agreed to participate virtually, and using the Google Meet platform for engagement.

The students were responsible for planning, organizing, and executing the project, including tasks like buying groceries, designing banners, and coordinating the online event. This involvement benefited them by enhancing their organizational, leadership, and empathy skills, while also fulfilling academic course requirements and character education aims.

Impact assessment was primarily qualitative, based on direct feedback from participants and the community's response. The sense of satisfaction, perceived improvements in well-being and education for children, and positive engagement during the online event were indicators of its success in positively impacting the community amidst the pandemic challenges.

The project's shift to an online format demonstrates the feasibility of maintaining community service initiatives through technology during health crises. Future projects can leverage digital tools for communication, coordination, and entertainment to ensure continuity while minimizing health risks. This approach could be expanded with virtual fundraising and digital skill development workshops.

The project originally planned for a donation of services and materials in person, but due to the Movement Control Order and rising Covid-19 cases, the execution method was adapted to an entirely online format using the Google Meet platform. This change was made to adhere to social distancing measures and prevent the spread of the virus.
