(a) SAS Congruence criterion (b) SSS congruence criterion

(c) ASA congruence criterion (d) RHS congruence criterion
Ans (a)
Sol. In AFE and CBD,
AB = CF [Given]
 AB + BF = CF + BF
 AF = CB
and EF = BD [Given]
AFE = CBD [Given]
Hence AFE is congruent to CBD [SAS congruence criterion]

2. In the given figure, if the bisector of BAC meets BC at P, then which of the following is true ?
(a) AP > BP > CP (b) AP = CP = BP (c) BP < AP < CP (d) CP < AP < BP

Ans (d)
Sol:

BAP = CAP = 45° [ BAC = 180° – 25° – 65° = 90°]

In ABP, ABP < BAP

 AP < BP
Also in ACP, CAP < ACP

Ans (d)
Sol:

In BRM and DRN

BRM = DRN [Vertically opposite angles]
BMR = DNR = 90° [Given]
BM = DN
 BRM  DRN [AAS congruence criterion]
BR = DR [CPCT]
BD = 2BR
 BD = 2 18 = 36cm
4. In the given figure, if AD = BC and AD || BC, then

(a) AB = AD (b) AB = DC
(c) BC = CD (d) None of these
Ans (b)
Sol: In ADC and CBA
AD = BC [Given]
CAD = ACB [  AD || BC]

and AC = AC [Common]
  ADC  CBA (By SAS Congruence criterion)

5. In the following figure, if AB = AC, BD = DC, then ADC is equal to

(a) 60° (b) 120° (c) 90° (d) None of these

Ans (c)
Sol. In ABD and ACD
AB = AC [Given]
BD = CD [Given]
AD = AD [Common]
 ABD  ACD [SSS congruence criterion]
 ADB = ADC [CPCT]
But both are linear pair angles
So, ADC = ADB = 90°
6. In the given figure, if PQ = SR, SQ = PR and OP : OR = 1 : 2, then OS : OQ will be

SQ = PR [Given]
 PQR  SQR [SSS congruence criterion]
QPR = RSQ [CPCT] …(i)

In POQ and SOR,

POQ = SOR [Vertically opposite angles]
QPO = RSO [From (i)]
PQ = SR [Given]
POQ  SOR [AAs congruence criterion]
PO = OS, QO = OR [CPCT]
OP 1

Ans (d)
Sol BD is drawn to intersect EF at O
EF is parallel to CD and AE : DE = 2 : 3
 BF : CF = 2 : 3
BOF and BDC are similar triagles
