MODULE 5 - CUSTOMS AND TRADITIONS
OBJECTIVES:
At the end of the course, the student should be able to identify the police customs
and traditions that promote professionalism and ethical conduct in the PNP.
The PNP adopts the generally acceptable customs and traditions based on the
desirable practices of the police. These shall serve as an inspiration to the PNP
endeavor to attain its goals and objectives.
Definition of Terms
1. Customs - Social practices carried by tradition that has obtained the force of
law.
2. Traditions - Bodies of belief, customs and usage handed down from
generation to generation with the effect of an unwritten law.
3. Courtesy - A manifestation or expression of consideration and respect for
others.
4. Ceremony - A formal act or set of formal acts established by customs or
authority as proper to special occasion.
5. Social Decorum - a set of norms and standards practiced by members during

6. Honor Ceremony
7. Turn-Over Ceremony
8. Wedding Ceremony

decorum:
1. Proper Attire

4. Uniform/Appearance - observe the following:
A. Wearing of prescribed uniform
B. Wearing as part of the uniform, awards and decorations earned in
accordance with the prescribed rules and regulations
