DANCE ^___^ : D
Growing up, Alexa had always dreamed of being a dancer. She always doubted
herself and never tried. In 8th grade, all of her friends joined dance. She didn’t want to be
the only one left out, so she tried out too. She kept her dream of being a dancer to herself,
so her friends thought she wouldn’t try. They also thought she was just in there to have a
good time with them.
When Alexa got in that class, her friends were blown away. In dance class, she
learned that there is a series of movement to complete one movement. Alexa found that
there are many reasons why people dance. She now knows that she dances because it
helps her fulfill her enjoyment, dreams, and it helps her express herself. Flexibility,
stamina, and development of muscles are things she learned could happen when you
dance.
In ballet class she learned that there were different positions.
“Okay class, we are about to begin class. We first start off with first position follow me.”
The class followed the teacher. In first position, you stand straight up with good
posture. Feet are planted to the floor with heels touching and toes are turned out.
Most of the class followed and knew what they were doing. Others were lost and
didn’t know how to do it. Alexa had never been in dance class but all the movement came
naturally. Her friends were the ones with the issues in dancing. They were also ashamed
that they couldn’t do a simple movement as easy as first position, so they played it off by
disrupting class.
The class then continued to the plies. In a plie you have a straight back. Your
knees are bent over toes. Your legs are horizontal to the dance floor. Since they were
beginners in this class, they were going to start on barre. Alexa continued doing well,
most of her friends were jealous but others were congratulating her.
As she continued doing well the jealous ones also continued doing the things they
were doing. They were doing worse things so they could get put out of class instead of
being intimidated but Alexa.
Alexa continued a very good stint as a dancer in middle and high school. In 8th
grade, she applied for Pebblebroke High School. She got in of course. While at
Pebblebroke, she learned about how dancing can tell a story. It tells a story by the facial
expressions and how different movement could mean different things. Also at
Pebblebroke, she got honor student of month every month. Alexa graduated with an
honors scholarship of dance. Her inspiration for dance was Alvin Ailey. She found out
that he had a dancing school and tried to get in. Of course, because she was such a
marvelous dancer, she got in. Alexa continued her life with a very successful career in
dance.
