Installing VRM for FusionCompute 6.5.1

The document outlines the two main steps to install FusionCompute: 1) Install the compute node agents (CNAs) by logging into virtual machines via VNC, restarting them, booting from CD-ROM, and selecting install. This involves configuring the hard drive, network settings, hostname, timezone, and password. 2) Install the virtual resource manager (VRM) by decompressing software packages, selecting components, configuring the VRM with IP address and password, and clicking install. This takes 20-40 minutes to complete and provides login information for the VRM web interface.

Steps in Installing FusionCompute

In the video that I’ve watched, they covered two steps in installing FusionCompute that is to
install host or the CAN nodes and then to install VRM. The video presentation begin by logging
into three VMs by means of VNC viewer. IP address plus port number is used to do that. Upon
logging in a VM via VNC viewer, we have to restart the VM by pressing Control-Alt-Delete and
then enter the boot menu by pressing esc in the course of the restart, then set up VM from CD-
ROM drive by selecting 3. After that, we will see a select menu showing Boot from Local disk,
install, and install (recover). We have to pick the second option which is install, given that it is
the first time we’re installing the CNA. Following that, the system will give necessary
preparations and then needed to be configured. The hard drive and the password manual
configuration are required but the others are suggested to be filled upon as well. First is to keep
the default settings since the VM consist of only one local disk. Next is to choose the network
information whether it is IPv4 or IPv6 in this case we can pick either of the two because the
FusionCompute 6.5.1 can support both. The video picked IPv4 as an example then selected the
network card and type the IP address and subnet mask manually. Next to that is to set the
default gateway. After the network item, the hostname is needed to be configured. Following
that is to set the timezone according to your location. Subsequently, the password will be
configured. In this item, one have to be really careful in setting up the password for the root
user, because if not, you have to reinstall the CNA all over again. After setting up the password,
the OS installation will now begin and will mostly take 5 up to 10 minutes. Upon completion,
the system automatically restarts and will go into command line interface mode. We have to
log in using the password set prior to OS installation. Thereafter the installation of the CNA is
the installation of the VRM which is the second step of the FusionCompute installation. First
step is to know how to utilize the installer tool, but prior to that decompress the software
packages or the zip files then proceeding to the launch of the installer. The path in this folder
can’t be in Chinese characters that’s why we got to have to set the language to be able to select
the components to install. After the verification, the page for VRM configuration will be
showed. We have to click the standalone for installation mode. Next to that is to type the VRM
IP address, subnet mask, and the gateway. After that the system will verify the information,
required is the CNA IP address and the password as a root user. Then we have to click the VRM
installation, upon waiting for completion which will cover about 20 to 40 minutes, the installer
will show the VRM information such as the name, password, and login address. Upon clicking
the login address, we will be placed into the VRM login page. There we have to confirm the End
User Agreement. Lastly, we have to input our username which is admin and password which
can found from the installer. Take a note that the password provided in here is quite long and
required to be typed manually. After the first time of logging in, we will be asked to change the
default password which also requires to be filled manually. That is the end of the steps in
installing the FusionCompute.

The VRM (Virtual Resource Management) configuration in FusionCompute installation is crucial for managing virtual resources within the FusionCompute environment. This process begins with extracting the software packages and launching the installer. The installation mode is set to standalone, and the VRM IP address, subnet mask, and gateway are entered to verify the setup. The CNA IP address and root password are also required for verification. The VRM configuration concludes with the installer providing necessary data such as name, password, and login address, which are used to finalize the setup and access the VRM login page after accepting the End User Agreement .

The FusionCompute installation process ensures system stability by carefully setting up and verifying system configurations during the CNA and VRM installation steps. By configuring key elements such as network settings, including IP addresses and gateways, and ensuring secure root password setups, the installer provides a robust infrastructure. After VRM installs, it displays essential information needed for future logins and checks, allowing for any necessary adjustments or validations to support ongoing stability .

The time duration for CNA installation, typically 5 to 10 minutes, and VRM installation, ranging from 20 to 40 minutes, significantly impacts FusionCompute deployment efficiency. Shorter installation times for both components enable quicker deployment and faster transition into operational readiness. However, the time frames necessitate careful execution of each step; improper configurations or errors can prolong installation or require reinstallation. Efficient management of these durations contributes to smoother deployment and resource optimization within IT operations .

The VRM installation step in FusionCompute is fundamental for the system's management capabilities. VRM, or Virtual Resource Management, allows for effective administration of the virtual environment by managing and allocating resources efficiently, enhancing performance, scalability, and resource utilization. This step provides critical functionality for maintaining system health, supporting virtual machine operations, and extending the abilities of the infrastructure towards complex cloud management demands .

During the FusionCompute installation, network settings involve choosing between IPv4 or IPv6 addressing. The installation example uses IPv4, whereby the network card, IP address, and subnet mask are manually entered. The default gateway is also configured. These settings are critical for facilitating communication within the network infrastructure and ensuring that the environment can properly interface with other network segments and devices .

Switching the installer language settings during VRM installation involves setting the installation environment to an appropriate language that supports the required character set and system compatibility. This step is necessary to prevent errors related to file paths or executable files that may arise from unsupported characters, such as Chinese, which could interfere with the software installation and operation .

During the CNA installation of FusionCompute, it is important to be cautious when setting the root user password. If the password is set incorrectly, it may necessitate reinstalling the CNA since accessing the system requires this password. Ensuring that the password is both secure and correctly remembered is essential to avoid complications and delays in the installation process .

The installation of FusionCompute begins with two critical steps: first, installing the host or CNA nodes, and second, installing the VRM. One must log into the Virtual Machines using a VNC viewer by entering the IP address and port number. It's crucial to restart the VM and enter the boot menu to configure it to boot from the CD-ROM drive. This step is essential for setting up the initial install of the CNA, selecting configuration settings such as the network information (using IPv4 or IPv6), setting the default gateway, hostname, timezone, and carefully configuring the root user password to avoid reinstallations due to errors. Following these steps correctly ensures the successful setup and stability of the FusionCompute environment .

Correctly setting the timezone during FusionCompute installation is important for ensuring the synchronization and proper functioning of time-dependent applications and services across the virtual infrastructure. Incorrect timezone settings can lead to issues with log file timings, scheduled tasks, and any application that relies on time calculations, potentially causing inconsistencies in operation and data integrity .

During the installation of VRM in FusionCompute, it's crucial to set the language to avoid the use of non-English characters, such as Chinese, in the paths where installers are executed. This is significant because language and character set settings can affect file referencing, system compatibility, and the overall success of the software configuration. An incorrect setting might lead to errors or installation failure, hence the manual entry of these settings ensures proper communication and operation within the system .
