Antioxidant Variation in Tomatoes

This study analyzed 50 tomato lines of L. esculentum and 3 lines of L. pimpinellifolium to evaluate genetic variation in antioxidant content and activity. Over two years, the lines showed high genetic diversity in antioxidants like beta carotene, ascorbic acid, and phenolics, as well as antioxidant activity measured by anti-radical power and inhibition of lipid peroxidation. L. pimpinellifolium lines performed significantly better than L. esculentum lines for several antioxidants and activity measures. Traits like anti-radical power and inhibition of lipid peroxidation were highly correlated and stable between years. Total phenolics content correlated most strongly with antioxidant activity

Title: Variation for Antioxidant activity and antioxidant in tomato
Introduction:
Antioxidants are very important for human body. Antioxidants are substance that may protected
human body from different diseases like heart disease cancer, and other harmful diseases. The
source of antioxidant is natural and artificial. Plant based foods like tomato or other vegetables
are rich source of antioxidant. Antioxidant which presents in plant based are called
phytonutrient. In tomato many antioxidants are present like Lycopene, Beta Carotene, Ascorbic
acid, and vitamin C are also present. These antioxidants are very important for human health if
talk about lycopene content which is present in tomato, they are very important for excretion of
waste material of the body also Prevent from cancer like harmful disease and heart disease.

Summary:

Tomato is most important crop which consume worldwide as vegetable. It is most important
source of different antioxidant. If we talk about human health, tomato is most important
vegetable which provide significant amount of beta Carotene, and provitamin A carotenoid and
provide lycopene content. Improvement of tomato for increase quantity of AO (Antioxidants)
and Antioxidant’s activity (AOA) could highly be beneficial for human health. In this research
article author use 50 lines of L. esculntum and three lines of [Link] all line have
different origin and different size like small, large, Medium also describe correlation between
them. They create variation for increase rate of antioxidant activity like beta carotene, ascorbic
acid, total phenolics, also study for antioxidant activity anti-redical power (ARP) and inhibition
of lipid peroxidation (ILP) for two years during same period same weather. He detects high
genetic diversity for the antioxidant (AO) and antioxidant activity (AOA). He studied that, L.
pimpinellifoium significantly higher than L. esculantum group mean for ARP, ILP, Lycopene
content, Ascorbic acid, Phenolics, and soluble solid concentration. Ranking of entries for ILP
and ARP were consistent between years, particularly for those entries with the highest means and
these groups could be adopted by tomato breeders. Results from ILP and ARP groups were
highly correlated, and it would be not important to us both groups for tomato. Lycopene, Beta
carotene, ascorbic acid, soluble solid, and total phenolics were all positively correlated with
ARP. Among antioxidants, total phenolics content was most closely associated with ARP and
ILP this suggest that phenolics make a major contribution to antioxidant activity (AOA) in
tomato fruit. Fruit size was negatively correlated with ARP and ILP which indicate that
combining large fruit size and high antioxidant activity (AOA) will be challenging. Different in
vitro methods have been designed to estimate antioxidant activity (AOA) by simulating oxidative
reaction that could take place during the initiation and development of human diseases.
