AIIMS protocols in Neonatology 2019, Noble Vision Publishers, Delhi

We are delighted to present the second edition of 'AIIMS Protocols in Neonatology'.
The manual has been thoroughly updated by incorporating new evidence, deleting
redundant material, and correcting inadvertent errors (thanks to many readers who
provided their diligent feedback). The current edition has 27 new protocols. Some
of them do pertain to rare conditions but, we believe they would serve as simple
yet comprehensive resource materials on different aspects of neonatal care.
There is actually plethora of information available in the form of books, internet
resources, and CMEs amongst others in any field of medicine including neonatology.
But the students, residents, practitioners, and other stakeholders still find
themselves at loss looking for a reliable and up-to-date source of information on
newborn health and there exists a space for a concise book that serves as a brief
guide for holistic management of a newborn. 'AIIMS Protocols in Neonatology'
attempts to fill that void. The manual certainly does not cover all the conditions
that a healthcare provider might encounter in his day-to-day practice. But, this
edition includes more conditions than the previous one, and we hope that future
editions will cover the entire gamut of neonatal care.
Compared to writing a textbook, editing a protocol book is far more challenging. It
requires collation of the available evidence, judging its relevance and
applicability in the given context, and creating a consensus amongst the team
members in multiple iterative cycles of revision. We are grateful to our team of
wonderful residents - current and past, and the faculty colleagues - within and
outside the department, who have contributed immensely to this endeavor. All the
contributors feel proud of being able to contribute to the education of a large
number of colleagues in our fraternity and patient care in India and beyond through
this activity.
The protocols are not universal and applicable only in a given context. These
protocols, therefore, are applicable to our (or similar) context. They may need
adaptation for a different setting. We advise the readers to take into
consideration the context they work in while applying these protocols in practice.
At AIIMS, our core value is that of unrestricted sharing of all the resources that
we have the privilege to create. In consonance with this philosophy, all the
important protocols are being made available in PDF format on our website
([Link]) free of cost.
We wish to thank Mr Sudhir Hira of Noble Vision (our new publisher) who personally
supervised the publication work.
Though we have taken utmost care to minimize inadvertent errors and factual
inaccuracies in this edition, there is still a possibility of finding random errors
in the book. We trust that the readers would be careful to take note of such errors
while using this manual and be generous enough to provide their valuable feedback
