Multifunctional smart wooden furniture [ CITATION Ond19 \l 1033 ]
The idea of multi-functional smart furniture refers to something that combines modern
technology with its default analogue function and delivers something which is more capable than
being just a furniture and much more customizable and user-friendly.
For example , Foldable bed, smart desk with security features like fingerprint reader, convertible
wooden table and chair , smart Bluetooth speaker enabled table, beds having USB ports,
Smart furniture can be made of plastic, metal, wood or other materials. And this concept of
multifunctional smart furniture is booming in developed and developing countries. But in
countries like Bangladesh the concept of furniture are yet so static. When it comes to furniture
wood is mostly preferred and considered as superior to plastic and metal. We tend to relate the
term ‘smart furniture’ only with plastic and metal made furniture but the case is not like that.
Wooden furniture are also being modernized and customizable.
Being one of the most densely populated countries, Bangladesh needs such modern solution to
its mega cities like Dhaka and Chittagong. Almost all of us are familiar with small and congested
apartments. Scarcity of space requires such modern solution like multifunctional smart furniture.
But unlike Singapore and Hong Kong we are not adapting the solution because,
Initially it seems expansive.
Lack of technological expertise over this concept.
Customer’s uncertainty about it.
People from our country has previously shown unwillingness to convert from bar phones to
touch based smartphones but eventually we ended up used to it, the similar could also happen
with multifunctional smart furniture. And from the perspective of the industry a new era in
wooden furniture manufacturing is yet to be started. Some probable measures can be taken to
speed up the process like,
Training and development of the necessary skills required.
Focus on buying advanced CNC machines.
Exhibition of the smart furniture.
Start with creative convertible design rather than adding tech to it.

CNC Machine [ CITATION Hrn17 \l 1033 ]
The significance of handmade wooden furniture has always been there. It requires certain
knowledge and skills to turn a block of wood into a furniture. From the very beginning this
particular task has been done with the help of number of hand tools. As wood is a much softer
material compared to steel and iron and can be given any shape and size with the help of some
tools and adhesives , people have not prioritized using of any machines to prepare furniture out
of it. But with the development of technology, a new dimension has been added to the wood
furniture industry. And it is particularly the addition of CNC(computer numeric control)
machines.
CNC was introduced to wood industry in the 1960s in the United States. CNC is such a
technology that reads the numeric data of the production code, and as output, it operates the
machine tools attached to it.
With the rapid growth of the demand of wooden furniture worldwide as well as in Bangladesh,
only hand tools were not enough. Because it takes certain trained workers and lot of time to
prepare furniture from wood. In fact handmade furniture are likely to lack accuracy in
measurement and design. This process is also responsible for wastage of wood during cutting
and crafting. Neither the producer was able to produce furniture in industrial margin, nor the
buyers could get sharp, fine and accurately designed furniture.
CNC technology has brought solution to such problems. This has made,
Works faster- as wood cutting and designing are being computerizes.
Accurate- as long as the machine is working fine, it can deliver accurately similar output just
as required.
Efficient – this technology is not just saving time and cost but also preventing wastage of
wood.
Designs and Patterns which would take days and weeks, are now being done within minutes.
CNC machines are increasingly used in industries because it bought great precision, quality, and
eligibility of processing complex parts of the work.
