Assignment Week 7 : Entrepreneurship
Entrepreneurship is the process of identifying, developing, and bringing a vision into life.
That vision can be innovative ideas, opportunities, better ways of doing things. Many
economists argue about the notion of entrepreneurship itself, some of which are:
• Richard Cantillon argues that Entrepreneurship is the job of an entrepreneur who buys
goods at a certain price then resells them at an uncertain price. Entrepreneurship here
refers to how someone takes uncertain risks.
• Meanwhile, according to Drs. Joko Untoro, The notion of entrepreneurship is the
courage to make various efforts to meet the necessities of life that someone does. Efforts
are based on the ability by utilizing all the potential that is owned, to produce something
useful for himself and others.
• And according to Eddy Soeryanto Soegoto Entrepreneurship is a creative effort based
on innovation to produce something new, have added value, provide benefits, create
jobs, and the results are useful for others.
The business itself is divided into 2, namely SME (Small Medium Enterprise), namely
small businesses that focus on the local market, and IDE (Innovation-Driven
Entrepreneurship), namely businesses that look to the global market.
People who carry out entrepreneurial activities are called entrepreneurs. the entrepreneur is
willing to bear the risk of a new venture if there is a significant chance for profit, an innovator
who markets his innovation, and the one who develops new goods or processes that the market
demands and are not currently being supplied.
Interesting thing from entrepreneurship
In my opinion, an interesting thing that we can learn from entrepreneurship is that to
plan an enterprise we not only need capital to build it, but we also need to know market
conditions from both the consumer and producer side. From here we will know that we can
build a business that is not only intended for personal gain, but we can also build a business
that can also build our nation. For example, a business called “Du Anyam”, which was built by
Melia Winata was founded in 2013 to help families in 22 villages in East Flores by empowering
local women to make a woven handicraft into a commercial item that has a selling value.
Why is entrepreneurship important
Research indicates that most successful entrepreneurs share certain personal attributes,
including creativity, dedication, determination, flexibility, leadership, passion, self-confidence,
and "smarts."
• Creativity: how we can generate innovations that can be developed in the market
• Determination: the extremely strong desire to achieve success and the enthusiasm to
continue to develop and want to learn
• Flexibility: the ability to move quickly in response to changing market needs
• Leadership: the ability to create rules and to set goals
• Passion: our vision and mission about what gets us started and keeps them there
• Self-confidence: dare to take risks
• Smarts: how we can think critically to get the opportunities that exist
The above explanation proves that an entrepreneur is not only about how to market products
in the market or get high profits. However, from this entrepreneurial activity, a person can be
trained to be open-minded and think critically. How should we be able to solve the problems
we face not only now, but also in the future, train our creativity to think about innovations, let
alone those that can meet market demands, and how we can predict future opportunities so that
the businesses we build not lost by time. These abilities can shape us to become someone who
has a mature, critical, and insightful personality. Maybe many people do not realize that
entrepreneurship can shape us to be better, therefore we need to be able to learn
entrepreneurship.
What kind of business do you are/want you to make happen
Until now, I don't have any business. However, I already have a plan to build a business,
which is an online business that sells fresh, wet cooking spices, for example, opor spices,
rendang, soup, and others. What distinguishes this product from instant products sold in stores
is that this product is processed without using any chemicals, so only uses mashed spices. This
is not an innovation, there are also many sellers of spices. But unfortunately, they only sell in
a few big markets in a few cities. This is the background I want to set up this online business.
Many mothers in several areas, for example in my hometown in Garut Regency, sometimes get
confused when the holidays arrive. If they want to cook opor, for example, if they cook using
instant spices, the resulting taste is less delicious, but if you have to refine the spices by theyself,
it takes a lot of effort and time. Therefore, I want to make a wet seasoning online business that
can help mothers cook. If you want to cook, just order and can be delivered within a few times.
Once Mark Zuckerberg said, “Ideas don't come out fully formed. They only become clear as
you work on them. You just have to get started.
