1. Introduction
Developing strong teams-based in the workplace has become more important for
organisations last days. It is evident how an effective team can help an organisation to
achieve incredible results like gains in productivity, innovation and responsiveness to
customer needs. There are some conditions that makes a team effective. Establishing
clear objectives, appropriate Leadership, commitment to the team and a supportive team
climate are some of them.
This report will describe the process for establishing team performance plan, develop and
facilitate team cohesion, facilitate teamwork and liaise with stakeholders for Apparel
Brands Pty Ltd Company and some recommendations based on likely effectiveness, time-
frames and costs.
2. About the Company
Brands, founded in 1901, is an Australian based manufacturer and distributor of generic
clothing and footwear. The company takes orders from retailers and supplies retailers with
clothing products that have been manufactured to retailers’ specifications. These clothing
products are then sold to consumers under the retailers’ various brands.
Recently, Apparel Brands has found its market share in decline due to a strong Australian
dollar and increased overseas competition. In addition, labour costs are eating into profit
margins. Trends in the Australian textile industry suggest that the company, although it is
in a strong financial position now, will struggle to make a profit within two years.
To ensure the continued existence of Apparel Brands, the company has embarked on a
bold new strategic direction:
● Develop own brands and product range and sell direct to consumers
Weng Yan CHU, Choice Business College
BSBWOR502 Lead and manage team effectiveness
● Leverage e-commerce opportunities to reduce distribution costs and increase profit
margins.
Company vision: In the next five years, Apparel Brands will establish a range of
innovative and exciting online clothing brands and help secure a future for Australian
clothing manufacturing.
3. SMART Goals
In order for us to achieve our objectives, our team decided to use the SMART goals
system. All goals are specific, measurable, attainable, relevant and time related. This will
boost our engagement and ensure that each member of the team understand their role in
the overall approach. Correspondingly, this will save time and improve our efficiency
identifying the best e-commerce opportunity to ensure the continued existence of Apparel
Brands.
The team goals are as follows:
Specific: Our specific goal is to propose to the company an effective approach to identify
an e-commerce opportunity for Apparel Brands.
Measurable: Setting up the platform for e-commerce in which customers design their own
custom t-shirts.
Attainable: Using $30,000 as budget for setting up the e-commerce venture.
Relevant: Developing own brands and product range and sell direct to consumers,
leverage e-commerce opportunities to reduce distribution costs and increase profit
margins.
Time-related: We set a period of eight months to develop and implement the e-commerce
strategy.
4. Team Policies

● Team ground rules
Early during our first meeting, we have set the team’s ground rules, which will improve our
performance and meet our expectation. The norms established are clear, concise, and
consistent and agreed. This will help each member to decide how to act and be
responsible for his or her role.
● Attitude and culture
We intend to develop good relationship based on trust and open communication. Each
member has the right to opinion and constructive feedback. We will avoid being defensive
and give advice and responses considering other members views.
● Communication and decision making
Each member is given the chance to speak their views on the project while respecting the
team’s time and meeting scheduled in the activity schedule below. We listen and are non-
judgemental on the member’s views and feedback, as our relationship should be based
on open communication until the decision is made. We will put emphasis on teamwork
and use unanimity for key decisions and problems. We all make an effort to reach
commitments and accomplish our objectives. While work is in progress, we will refer to
our rules. If there is a member dominating, the team members should be honest and open
to ask the individual to stop dominating the group. We have a collective mission in this
project.
● Meeting and Activities
All members are required to attend all the meetings and activities. In the event of absence,
the team member should communicate this in advance so that the daily schedule can be
updated so that does not impact the working flow.
● Coaching opportunities
Weng Yan CHU, Choice Business College
BSBWOR502 Lead and manage team effectiveness
The team should be provided with learning opportunities in order to build individuals skills
and to encourage people to grow and expand their capabilities.
● Recognition and Appreciation
It is important to reward good teamwork. Through showing appreciation it encourages
team members to continue to perform to the best of their ability and can incentive them
and lead them to be more engaged and motivated.
5. Team Composition
We are a team of four members. Our team has different personalities and each of us will
have specific roles, according to our skills and capabilities, this will help bring a winning
proposal for Apparel Brands.
Our decision on the potential members is based on their skills and experiences. As we
were lacking someone with statistical skills, we decided to take Mary onboard. Mary will
gather and analyze all the databases in order to find patterns and relevant variables to
select the best portfolio for the e-commerce platform.
The second member that we selected is Li. She has extensive marketing skills and make
her a valuable addition to our team. She will assist us to understand better the market in
this field, and create and optimize more effective marketing campaigns. She has an
extensive background, knowledge in excel, and understanding of analytics tools that are
useful for this project.
Finally, Andrew who is the graphic designer has the responsibility to create all the art and
visual content for the online business and James who is the web developer in charge of
selecting the e-commerce platform, domain, hosting and security of the website.
Below table gives detailed insight on the roles of each member, their contribution to the
project goals and strengths and weaknesses:

6. E-commerce Strategy
Starting with the current situation of Apparel Brands, our team decided to go through the
strengths that the company has so far. For instance, now the company has a significant
number of customers' information. This information shows the products that we have been
manufactured to retailers’ specifications. We have that the information about the sales,
products’ characteristics and this can show us trends of the products that these retailers
have been selling for years.
For working with this data, we need a role of a statistician. This role can gather numerical
data and then displays it, helping the company to make sense of quantitative data and to
spot trends and make predictions about the products that we can create according to with
the predictions.
Now with the forecast about the products that is going to be create, the marketing analyst
join with the designer, have to build all of these products and make the arts for the e-
commerce website and ads that will promote the products.
Simultaneously, the web developer has to be choosing the software, hardware and whole
architecture that it will support this e-commerce site. He has to define the contract terms
for purchases clear, accurate and easily accessible by consumers. Also, write a policy to
protect consumers' privacy. Additionally, he has to provide consumers with payment
mechanisms that are easy to use and offer appropriate security and to inform the
consumer about any specific laws or jurisdiction applicable to transactions with the
business. Finally, with the e-commerce setup, he has to go live the online store with the
products, to establish an online presence through web search engines, to warrant the

There are several benefits to build our own brand. With private branding, the company will
create their own unique image, which begets a marketing identity and promotes stronger
customer recognition and loyalty. Another important factor is that it will give us more
control over pricing, products to be made, marketing, sales, and distribution.
Our products' cost it will be computed by add together the total direct materials costs, total

7. Performance Plan
First of all our team had the first agreed meeting with brainstorming sessions, in order to
come up with some ideas for the e-commerce strategy. The team considered a number of
possible ideas and perspectives. Tasha as a leader encouraged people to talk and every
team member was committed and showed contribution and high cooperation. According to
the individual performance plans related in appendix they contain performance measures,
specific goals to be achieved by each team member, the actions required, the time and the
methods that will be used to monitor and evaluate the performance.
Strategies to ensure each team member has input into the planning
process.
1. Defining expectations.
2. Negotiate KPI with every team member in order to increase level of personal
commitment and a better level of understanding of team member about the
expectatives.
3. Create an agreed set of terms that outline the specific performance of each team
member.
4. Defining Milestones
5. Providing guidance monitoring and control. Moreover, ensure measures and
milestones are in place.
Ideas for Policies to ensure team members take responsibility for own
work.
1. Align work, goals and purpose because It’s essential for employees to understand
how their goals connect to the larger objectives of the organisation.
2. Lead by example because if Tasha as a leader takes responsibility for excellence,
chances are the people around she will also take responsibility and practice
excellence. It is important to model the behaviors the leader expect from the team
members.
3. Giving everyone a chance to speak to fully fully articulate their ideas.
4. Help people get a vision of excellence
5. Rewarding responsibility.

BSBWOR502 Lead and manage team effectiveness
Team goals and how your team can achieve these goals
1. Implement the e-commerce project with the resources assigned.
2. Delivered on time. The team can achieve these goals by keeping the agenda and
deadlines and have periodic meetings in order to find support from the leader or
another team member.
3. Business objectives with this strategy
Strategies for Gaining Consensus
It’s important that everyone in the team has the chance to be heard and must feel
comfortable speaking and giving their ideas. Some strategies our group used for gaining
consensus were:
1. As a team we shared relevant information and as a leader I made sure that
everyone fully understands the issue or problem.
2. Together we explored the issue and discussed the alternative solutions.
3. We implemented an action plan for the task. Furthermore, according with the
capabilities we nominate who, when and how they will be achieved and deadlines
for each task.
According to our group behaviour the best way to present my ideas and work effectively is
using active listening, making eye contact and nodding occasionally to indicate I
understand them then, using open questions to share the same understanding and if there
is any doubt using familiar words to ensure every team member understand every issue.
