Germany Mandates Medical-Grade Masks
The first article that I found is called, “Germany Mandates Medical-Grade Masks” written by
Tommy Beer and Published in Forbes on January 20, 2021 talks about how Germany has now
made it mandatory to wear medical-grade face masks rather than just wearing a cloth face
covering. The first part of the article says, “Amid rising infections and hospitalizations
associated with new, more contagious, variants of Covid-19 throughout Europe, German
Chancellor Angela Merkel has announced that all individuals in the country would be required
to wear medical-grade face masks, as opposed to merely cloth coverings, when in the workplace,
on public transportation, and in shops.” As it says, the German Chancellor named Angela
Merkel wants the German people to start wearing medical-grade masks rather than just cloth
coverings due to the fact that there are new and possibly more contagious variants of Covid-19.
Throughout the article it gives some information about Covid-19 in Germany and at one point it
says that there are about 48,770 people who have died of Covid in Germany. It also talks about
how France is thinking about also doing a similar mandate in their country.
Iowa, Utah Impose Mask Mandates, But Many GOP-Led States Still
Resist Them Amid Covid-19 Surge
My second article is called, “Iowa, Utah Impose Mask Mandates, But
Many GOP-Led States Still Resist Them Amid Covid-19 Surge” written by
Alison Durkee and published in Forbes on November 10, 2020. In the article it
talks about how the Iowa Governor, Kim Reynolds announced that face masks
would be required in large gatherings and in certain types of businesses. This is
following Utah’s imposition of a statewide mask mandate. One thing that really
stood out to me in this article was a section called, “Big Number.” In that sectio
the first thing it says is, “105,142. That’s the new number of Covid-19 cases in
the U.S.” Obviously these numbers are now different but that still is a very
important piece of information.
Still Confused About Masks? Here’s the Science Behind How
Face Masks Prevent Coronavirus
The third article I found is called, “Still Confused About Masks? Here’s
the Science Behind How Face Masks Prevent Coronavirus.” It is by Nina Bai and
was published on June 26, 2020 on the University of California San Francisco
website. In the article it has a section called, What evidence do we have that
wearing a mask is effective in preventing COVID-19? The first paragraph in that
section talks about how the masks can be used to block droplets from getting out
and getting onto people. This is the main way that this virus is spread so blocking
that is one of the main focuses.
The Importance of Wearing a Mask
This article is called, “The Importance of Wearing a Mask.” It is an article by
Novus Health and it was published on September 2, 2020 onto the Novus Health website.
The article mainly talks about the importance of the masks which can be assumed from
the title of it. However there is one section in the article which is titled, Why wear a mask
in a public space? It starts off by talking about how when you enter a hospital or a doctors
office you often see a box of masks with a sign that says to wear one if you are coughing
or are sick. This is done because if you can cover your mouth your chance of spreading
your sickness or disease. Since Covid is spread through liquid droplets which are
expelled by breathing, coughing, talking, and sneezing one way of stopping that is by
covering our mouths. So masks is an easy solution that can decrease the chances of these
droplets getting out.
Wear Mask To Protect Yourself From The Coronavirus, Not
Only Others, CDC Stresses
My fifth and final article is titled, “Wear Mask To Protect Yourself From The Coronavirus, Not
Only Others, CDC Stresses.” It was written by Maria Godoy and published to [Link] on November 11,
2020. This article talks a lot about the benefits the person wearing the mask can get and how it is helping
protect them as well. It does a very good job of emphasizing the fact that yes masks are very beneficial for
you to help protect the others around you however they can still keep you safe. Maria includes this from
the CDC, “Wearing a mask protects the wearer, and not just other people, from the coronavirus, the
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention emphasized in an updated scientific brief issued Tuesday. And
the protective benefits of masks are stronger the more people wear masks consistently and correctly, the
agency says.” She uses the CDC multiple times in the article which helps her article to be more reliable
and be a good source to look at to help learn about the benefits of masks to the person wearing it.
