Reflection Artifact Project

As the semester has gone by English language has really forced me to get
out of my comfort zone. Most of my school life, English has always been reading,
literature, and writing for me. This semester I was faced with an entirely different
perspective of English language. From going to a curriculum that says write about
this, correct this sentence, read this story to making a portfolio and multimodal
narrative.
Furthermore, this is the first semester I take an English class entirely online.
From having a teacher to read and critique your work in person to having to email
your work and wait for a reply. From having another classmate’s perspective and
opinion to having no contact with other classmates, besides the discussion board.
Learning to be self-dependent has really been a big lesson that I have had to deal
with. In school we are always surrounded by other people. I find that opportunity
to be a great tool for knowledge.
I find effective criticism to be one of the best tools to learning. This
semester, we have had the opportunity to work on drafts before turning in the final
project. By doing so I have learned that instead of relying on others to critique your
work the best solution in replacing this is by doing the work the first and continue
to reflect on it. For example, in the theory or writing, after reflecting over my
original line of inquiry I realized I needed to change it entirely as it was weak.
Brain storming has also been another great tool I have had to learn to use. I
think having 50 ideas rather than 3 ideas gives you a greater opportunity in finding

a greater plan. The SOGC was another great activity we had to do to further
display our plan for change. I learned that writing out the goals we have further
help me plan my work. From just keeping the goals in my head I tend to forget
what I plan on doing.
Furthermore, I have also found MLA formats as a new tool in the online

classroom. I have only ever needed to write in MLA format one other time in my

highschool years. I now use the format and apply it to my other classes as well.

This class has taught me many lessons that I cannot forget. I am so grateful
to further advance these new learnings and apply them in other parts of my
educational pathway.
