There have been many changes in the last couple of years among many different districts.
Some changes that have occurred between the school districts include population growth,
diversity, and students with disabilites. There is a wide range in size and percentages. I choose to
look at Olentay Local Schools, Columbus Public Schools, Westerville City Schools, and
Worthington Schools. I looked at the different state report cards for 2008 (Evidence 2.3.1)
Olentangy local (Evidence2.3.2) Columbus city (Evidence 2.3.3) Westerville city
(Evidence2.3.4) Worthington schools (Evidence 2.3.5) I also looked at state report cards for
2019 (Evidence 2.3.6) Olentangy Local (Evidence2.3.7) Columbus City (Evidence 2.3.8)
Westerville City (Evidence2.3.9) Worthington Schools (Evidence 2.3.10)
I choose these schools because I live and go to Olentangy local schools. I choose
Westerville schools because this district is like us because of size, socioeconomic, population,
number of schools. I chose Worthington schools because they are close to our district but they
have only one district and I was very interested in looking at the difference between the different
districts. I chose Columbus public because they have a very lower rate in our state. I am
comparing two different years 2008 to 2019 the topics that I am comparing our graduation rating,
diversity/race, students with disabilities, free reduced lunch, disadvantages rate/poverty and
socio-economic levels.
Starting with a graduation rate in Olentangy it was 98% in 2008 and in 2019 it was 98.3%
. This statistics has improved in the past couple of years because of having more resources to
help the schools and providing resources. For example some of the resources that are given is
more classes offered to students. If students are struggling there are summer classes offered for
student to help growing so they do not fall behind and can get the help they need to [Link]
them is offing AP classes plus college ready [Link] graduation rate for Columbus public has
gone up a big amount since then in 2008 66.3% to 2019 81.3% This statistics has improved
because the more teachers have come into the district and they have more resources. Some of the
resources that columbus public schools have used or that has helped them is building connection
with their students and also hosting touring sessions to help the students because they might not
get the help they need at home. Westerville has not changed that much in the last couple of years
in 2008 91.6% in 2008 and in 2019 it was 92.6% why this has gone up in the past couple of years
because of having more resources to help the schools and providing resources. Some resources
that they use is how they have improved the use of technology to help there student with their
learning. Worthington has not changed that much in the last couple of years in 2008 91.6% in
and in 2019 it was 92.64% why it has gone up in the past couple of years because of having more
resources to help the schools and providing [Link] resources that has helped them is
offing AP classes plus college ready classes.
Next, with all of the districts that I am comparing the diversity and race, there has not
been a lot of changes though in looking at 2008 to 2019 all of the districts have increased with
white, black, Asian, Hispanic, and Indian.
Students with disabilities have increased a lot in the past couple of years at Olentangy in
2008 it was 8.95% in 2019 it is 13.58% with it increasing we have had to hire a lot more
intervention teachers to help with our special needs education units. In Columbus City, in 2008 it
was 13.66%. In 2019 it is 17.34% with the rate of students with disabilities they are having to
have more resources. For example for help in the classroom extra assistist. With Westerville
schools in 2008 it was 11.07% and in 2019 it is 14.84% with the rate of students with disabilites
they are having to have more resources for example providing more technology for students to
use to help communicate. Worthington With schools in 2008 it was 10.07% in 2019 it is 14.81 %
with the increasing year they are having to have more resources. The resources that they provide
is providing different classes for them and the extra teachers assists in the classroom.
Instead of labeling that demographic as "poverty" they are "disadvantaged" with the rates
in the past couple of years there has been an increase in poverty/disadvantage with Olentangy.
In 2008 it was 0.41% and 2019,6.64% having more students in poverty this just means we need
to have more resources need to help more students that are struggling with Columbus public
rates have shown a huge increase from 2008-2019 in 2008 it was 14.60% and 2019 it was
100.0% if this they have offered a lot of help to help these students out and provide them with
free lunch to help with students that are struggling. With Westerville city in 2008, it was 1.05%
and in 2019 7.53 % with having more students in poverty this just means we need to have more
resources to help more students that are struggling. In Worthington, in 2008 the poverty rate was
1.05% and in 2019 24.66% of this, they have offered a lot of help to help these students out and
provide them with free lunch to help students that are struggling.
Looking at all of the different districts they each keep growing each year and all of the
different categories they increase and I believe each district is growing each year with all of
these categories also increasing because of the population and how big the districts are. How
each district can help with all of these different topics is just to provide help with different
classes and students with disabilities give them more assistance from help. For the disadvantaged
students just having the schools offer more resources to help them. One big resource that is used
offering free reduced lunches.
