Introduction:
The aim of this lesson is to give students practice in reading for specific information in an article about the weather. Students will also have an
opportunity to practice pronunciation, words and collocations connected with the weather.

Introduction 5-10 As a lead-in to the topic, students will be shown the BBC weather website at [Link]

2. Task 1: Pre- Students should discuss in pairs or groups the difference between the different weather phenomena.

4. Task 3: Students will be asked what adjectives we often use with ‘rain’ and why, for example, we say ‘heavy rain’ and not

TIP: Students can be asked to find monolingual dictionaries online for extra help, as these will often give common
collocations, sometimes with example sentences so that students can see how the words are used in context. Using
a bilingual dictionary is not as helpful as it can be often confusing as collocations tend to differ between languages.

5. Task 4: Pre- Students will be asked to discuss the questions in pairs or groups. The tutor will monitor the discussions closely so
