and to convey to the waste treatment plant. This system consists of soil pipe, domestic waste
pipe, kitchen waste, laundry (for dormitory) drainage pipe and vent pipe. The sanitary drainage
piping will be designed to provide adequate circulation of air in all pipes with no danger of
siphonage or forcing of trap seals by using vent pipes system. In order to maintain healthful
environment, the sewage will be subjected to treatment prior to discharge into the site drainage

3.3.6 Waste water treatment plant (STP)

Waste water treatment system will be “Extended Activated Sludge Aeration Treatment System”
because of its high efficiency in removal dissolved BOD (Biologocal Oxygen Demand) from
domestic waste. This system is a biological treatment process in removing the BOD efficiently.
The quality of the effluent water is good and can be discharged to public drainage system
without causing the effect to environment. Its process will be started from the waste water from
the sanitary pipe flows into the septic tank. In this tank the fermentation process is produced by
anaerobic micro-organism. Next the pretreated waste water is continuously feed into the
aeration tank where the micro-organisms metalize and biologically flocculate the organic. The
micro- organisms (activated sludge) are settled from the aerated mix liquor under quiescent

condition in the sedimentation tank and subsequently return to the aeration tank. Clear water
from the sedimentation tank is chlorinated prior to discharge as effluent to site drainage system.

Common questions

The Building Management System (BMS) is crucial for the centralized monitoring and control of HVAC components such as Air Handling Units (AHUs), Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs), and Package Air Conditioning Units (PACs). By integrating all controllers within the respective AHU rooms, the BMS provides an open protocol system that facilitates real-time adjustments and optimization of the HVAC system's performance. This ensures efficiency, reduced energy consumption, and easy management and maintenance of the system from a central location .

Ventilation in sanitary drainage piping is vital to prevent siphonage or pressure imbalances that could result in the failure of trap seals, leading to unpleasant odors and potential contamination . By ensuring adequate air circulation through vent pipes, the system maintains the integrity of water seals in traps, crucial for preventing the backflow of gases and maintaining a healthful environment within the building.

The design report integrates the swimming pool system with other building systems by including a filtration system with a set turnover rate and chlorination solution that is automatically fed with the aid of a controller and diaphragm metering pump . The system's electrical operations are integrated with other plumbing equipment functions through panel boards managed from a central location . This integration ensures cohesive function with consistent maintenance of water quality and operational efficiency across the building's systems.

The sewage drainage system is designed to collect domestic waste from all building toilets and convey it to the waste treatment plant. It consists of soil pipes, domestic waste pipes, kitchen waste lines, laundry drainage pipes, and vent pipes, which prevent siphonage by ensuring adequate air circulation . Before being discharged into the site drainage system, sewage undergoes treatment using an Extended Activated Sludge Aeration Treatment System, which removes dissolved Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD) efficiently . This environmental safety measure ensures that the effluent is of good quality and does not adversely affect the surrounding environment.

The storm drainage system is designed to collect rainwater from the roof, terrace, and balcony and direct it through roof drains and rain leader pipes to the outside drainage system, thereby preventing water accumulation on building surfaces . Key components include roof drains, rain leader pipes, and an exterior site drainage system. This design effectively mitigates the risk of water damage by ensuring that rainwater is efficiently captured and redirected away from the building structure.

The main components of the HVAC system outlined in the design basis report include the following: Water Cooled Chillers, which provide the primary cooling; Chilled water pumps with Primary & Secondary Circuit for circulating the chilled water; Air Handling Units (AHUs) with Variable Frequency Drive for regulating air flow; Fan Coil Units for localized temperature control; Treated Fresh Air units for air quality management; Heat Recovery Units for energy efficiency; Insulated Chilled water piping & valves, and Fresh air Ducts for distributing the air; CO₂ sensors and Fire Dampers for safety; and Control Instruments for system operation . These components function together to maintain the indoor climate by removing heat and moisture from indoor air, circulating chilled or heated air, and ensuring adequate ventilation for comfort and safety.

The primary standards and codes followed for the sanitary and plumbing systems in the design are the Bangladesh National Building Code (BNBC) and the American Society of Plumbing Engineers (ASPE) standards . Adherence to these standards is important as it ensures that the systems are safe, reliable, and efficient. Compliance with these codes helps prevent sanitary issues, enhances the longevity of the infrastructure, and ensures that the system is capable of handling the expected loads and conditions safely.

The design basis report addresses energy efficiency in the HVAC system by incorporating features such as Water Cooled Chillers with Magnetic Bearing and Oil-Free technology for high efficiency, Hybrid System Air Handling Units with Variable Frequency Drive, and Heat Recovery Units . The integration of these components, along with measures like insulated chilled water piping and the use of a Building Management System (BMS) for centralized control, aims to optimize energy consumption by adjusting operational parameters based on actual demand, thereby enhancing the system's overall efficiency.

The design report considers the installation of electrical panel boards for operational control of plumbing systems at strategically operable places . Power supply to these panels is managed through the Electrical Package, with distribution to equipment under the Plumbing Package. This setup facilitates effective management and control of plumbing operations, ensuring coordination and efficiency in system functionality .

The wastewater treatment plant utilizes the "Extended Activated Sludge Aeration Treatment System," which is characterized by its high efficiency in removing dissolved Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD) from domestic waste . The process relies on a biological treatment mechanism where wastewater is first subjected to anaerobic fermentation in a septic tank, followed by aerated treatment to metabolize and flocculate organic matter. Efficient sludge settling and chlorination of clear water before discharge further ensure superior treatment of effluent, minimizing environmental impact while maintaining operational efficacy .
