Questions:

There are 2 different types of questions when using question words:

Subject Questions Object Questions


- When we want to know who carries - When we want to know information
out an action. about how, when, where, why… the
subject carry out an action.

Who works in a bank? Mary Where does Mary work? In a bank

Structure:

Subject questions:
Question word + main verb + complements + ?
Example: Jeremy bought a nice mug in Ireland.
Only one question is possible if we ask for the Subject of the sentence:
- Who bought a nice mug in Ireland?

Object questions:
Question word + auxiliary verb + subject + main verb + complement + ?
Example: Jeremy bought a nice mug in Ireland.
Possible questions according to the complements:
- What did Jeremy buy in Ireland? (asking for the Direct Complement)
- Where did Jeremy buy this nice mug? (asking for the Place Complement)
*The auxiliary will depend on the verbal tense of the sentence.

What happened at the party? What time has he finished his homework?
Which car arrived first? Which book do you like most?
Whose dog bit you? Whose sweet have you eaten?
