Nidhi Singh SCSI Bus Arbitration Analysis

1) Three SCSI controllers are connected to a common SCSI bus shared by two computers. The problem asks to find the time t when the controllers and bus will be free after all tasks are completed. 2) At t=4 seconds, computer 2 enters arbitration but cannot access the bus as it is still busy from prior tasks. 3) Similarly, at t=5.1 and 6.4 seconds computer 1 cannot access the bus as it remains busy. 4) At t=8 seconds, computer 1 is able to access the bus and initiate its task with target 3. 5) At t=8.2 seconds, computer 2 again cannot access the busy bus to initiate arbitration.

Problem 1:

Initiator Target Arbitration time of initiator Task time of target

(sec) given by initiator (sec)
2 1 4 8.4
1 3 5.1 5
1 2 6.4 5.8
1 3 8 3.5
2 2 8.2 4.9
Suppose, 2 computers are sharing a common SCSI bus among them. 3 SCSI controllers are connected
with the same bus. Now solve the following scenario and find out the value of t at which all the
controllers and bus will become free after executing all the tasks given by the all the computers.
Consider ,data transfer rate between all components = 1.7 sec
And arbitration +selection/reselection time= 2 sec

i) When t=4.0 sec, computer 2 enters into the arbitration phase

that time.
