Mechatronics

Syllabus:
Mechatronics patwari lect-1 full slide
Automatic Data Capture upto slide no. 15

1 question from each –

• Basics (Chapter 1. Definitions and other stuff …)
• Sensors & Actuators (Assignment)
• ADC / DAC
• Conceptual question. May be asked to construct a Ladder Diagram
or write an Instruction List based on a descriptive problem
statement.

Industrial Management

Introduction to Industrial Management → 1 set

Society Production and Management types → 0.5 or 1 set
Lean-Manufacturing-or-Big-JIT-2019 → 0.5 or 1 set
Planning and Decision Analysis → 1.5 set

* Calculations may come from Planning and Decision Analysis

* His actual question pattern rarely matches his suggestions
Power Plant Engineering

Syllabus:
(1) Revision of Steam Power Cycles (Dipak K. Sarkar / Slide)
(2) Steam Generators (Dipak K. Sarkar / Slide)
(3) Fuel and Combustion (Dipak K. Sarkar / Slide)
(4) Power Plant Economics (P. K. Nag / Class note)

Question pattern:
1 set from (1) – mainly mathematical (assignment)
1 set from (2) – descriptive
1 set from (3) – descriptive
0.5 set from (1) or (2) – descriptive
0.5 set from (4) – mathematical / descriptive

For mathematical questions –

• Assignment problems (Dipak K. Sarkar exercise 1.1 – 1.9, 2.1 – 2.6)
and examples
• For Power Plant Economics, follow examples from P. K. Nag
(related to the class lecture “Power Plant Economics”)
• No maths from Fuel and Combustion
For theoretical questions, follow the exercise questions from P. K. Nag
(not all questions, according to the syllabus)

* When writing about properties, if you cannot give exact value, then give
it in a range, like instead of Carbon 3.6%, you can write Carbon 3-4%
* Size your answers according to the marks of the question
Fluid Mechanics II

Cengel – Chapter 17
R. C. Hibbeler – Chapter 13
[will be updated]

* Theory, Derivation, Math

* Complicated equations will be provided
* Table (if needed) will be provided

Road Vehicle Dynamics

Syllabus
Book: Gillespie
Chapter 1 – Dynamic Axle Loads
Chapter 3 – Constant Deceleration, Energy/Power, Rolling Resistance
Chapter 4 – Drag, Air Density, Drag Coefficient, Life Force, Rolling
Resistance
Chapter 6 – Everything before Suspension Effects on Cornering

Book: Jazar
Chapter 1 – According to slide
Chapter 2 – 2.1 – 2.4, 2.8 (Crest and Dip derivation only)
Chapter 3 – 3.1 – 3.4 (upto slide 29 of Tire Dynamics Part 1 slide)
Detailed Suggestion
Gillespie chapter 1
Dynamic Axle Loads derivation

Gillespie chapter 3
Constant Deceleration (derivation of Stopping Distance and Time to Stop)
(Important)
Example 1 [Equations will not be given]

Gillespie chapter 4
Definitions (Road Load, Side Force, Drag, Lift)
Write equation of Drag and Drag Coefficient
Example 1, 2
* Air density equation will be given. But if “standard condition” is
mentioned then it won’t be given because for standard condition 𝜌 =
0.00236
* Empirical equations will be given
* Only definitions and problems from this chapter. No derivations

Gillespie chapter 6
Definitions (Camber Angle, Steering Angle, Ackerman Angle)
Definitions and Equations (Neutral Steer, Understeer, Oversteer,
Characteristic Speed, Critical Speed, Lateral Acceleration Gain, Sideslip
Angle, Static Margin)
Draw figure 6.1 and derive equations 6.1 and 6.2 (Important)
Draw figure 6.4 and derive Cornering Equations (upto equation 6.13)
(Important)
Example 1
* Equation 6.20 and 6.22 will be given. Others will not be given
Jazar chapter 2
Derivations (2.1 – 2.4, 2.8)
Examples related to these theories
Assignment (Exercise 1 – 13)
* 2 problems will come from this chapter (SI units)
* You can memorize the equations for safety, but you have to derive them
when solving the problems
Gillespie book page 16 (SI units)

Jazar chapter 3
Definitions
Definition of stiffness. Write equations 3.10 and 3.11
What is hysteresis effect? How it impacts the rolling resistance. Draw
figure 3.10 without the x and y values (Important)
Example 79
* Equation 3.23 will be given
* Memorize n values

* Problems coming from Gillespie book will have fps units. Conversion
factors will not be given.
* Only complicated equations will be given.
