Nature and Rules of Volleyball

Volleyball is a team sport played by two teams of six players each over a high net. The objective is to hit the ball over the net and land it in the opponent's court without the ball touching the ground on your side of the net. Players can hit the ball up to three times before returning it over the net. While there are different competitive versions of volleyball, they all share the common goals of landing the ball in your opponent's court and preventing it from landing in your own, require team coordination, and limit each team to a set number of touches before returning the ball over the net.

NATURE OF VOLLEYBALL

Lovely joy yap

Volley is a game played by two teams, usually of six players on a side, in which the players use their
hands to bat a ball back and forth over a high net, trying to make the ball touch the court within the
opponents’ playing area before it can be returned. To prevent this a player on the opposing team bats
the ball up and toward a teammate before it touches the court surface—that teammate may then volley
it back across the net or bat it to a third teammate who volleys it across the net. A team is allowed only
three touches of the ball before it must be returned over the net. It is sport that can be played both
indoors and outdoors.

There are several different competitive versions of volleyball, each having slightly different rules.
However, there are some characteristics that all versions of volleyball have in common:

1. All versions have the dual objective of causing the ball to land in your opponent's court while
preventing it from landing in your own.
2. Every version is considered a team sport, which requires coordinating and communicating with
teammates to reach common objectives.
3. Each team is allowed a limited number of touches on the ball before it has to go over the net.

No matter which version you play, these rules are the same. Think of the word volley, which means to
hit or touch the ball before it strikes the ground. Volleyball is just that; stopping the ball from hitting the
ground on your side of the net and trying to get it to hit the ground on your opponent's side.
