 Basic Language of Communication

Different Countries have different language so it is difficult for us, mariners, to


understand each other without a common language. So the IMO developed
Standard Maritime Communication Phrases or (SMCP) which will help all
mariners to execute their actions easily. The SMCP primarily serves three main
functions: the ship to ship communication, the ship to shore communication and
the internal communication onboard a ship. The development of SMCP will
decreases the miscommunication at sea that could lead to loss of life and
damage our environment.

 ITU Radio Regulations


The ITU Radio Regulations is a big help to all mariners also the all shipping
companies. With the help of ITU Radio Regulations it is now easy to ask for
assistance in prevention of damaging our natural environment when the ship is
met with a serious bad condition. The ITU Radio was made to be use worldwide
so that world was divided into three region which every region has different
frequencies to be used. The regulations also put some frequency reserves only
for SOS or on any ship that are in distress.

 Imo Standard Communication Phrases

The Standard communication phrases has been made to standardize the


language used in communication with multilingual crews for navigation at sea, in
port approaches, in waterways, harbors and on board ships. It is also to further
improve the safety of navigation and the actions of the ship. The phrases was
made to avoid miscommunication aboard the vessel. Also in communication they
also use Morse Code or flag signal so that it will be easy to understand to all
mariners or port officers only.
 Marine Communication

Vessel Traffic Services (VTS) are allocated to areas where vessel traffic is
located. Obviously, in order to ensure the safe passage of vessels in the area,
the protection of the vessels. The marine environment and the creation of a
system that enables the region to be effective Activity of the vessel. In vessels,
the Ship Reporting System (SRS) routinely sends Data for events such as search
and rescue, vessel traffic services, weather forecasting and marine pollution
prevention to the authorities.
