Before
1. The teacher will clarify the student friendly objective, “Today I will read informational
text and answer questions asked by my teacher. I will also find out the main idea of this
informational text and will summarize the informational text in my own words.”
2. The teacher will introduce “word attack” strategy to find meaning of difficult word.
3. TELL: The teacher will say “When I get stuck in some word I us “word attack”
strategy. MODEL: The teacher will write one sentence on the board “If you need a
shot or drug, a nurse can prescribe it to you”. I will do the following to find out the
meaning of the word “Read the sentence many times. Consider may words may make
sense in the sentence. Examine the word to see if the statement makes sense. Look for
hints after reading past the unknown phrase Compare the second sentence of the first
where the phrase is repeated. What term would make sense in both cases?” The teacher
will model how she will find out the meaning of the word “prescribe”.
4. “GUIDE: The teacher will write another sentence on the board “Many people seek
medical attention at a doctor's office or at a hospital.’ and will ask two students on the
board to find the meaning of the difficult word. APPLY: The teacher will watch as the
students complete the task. The teacher will invite students to share their interpretations
of the meaning.
5. The teacher will inform that word attack” strategy will help them analyze the meaning
of any word.

1. TELL: The teacher will tell the students, “Today we are going to read about
informational text “Why Do Animals Play?” I want you all to think about how animals
play? After thinking turn to your partner and discuss your thoughts about how animals
play? We will have a whole class discussion on about how animals play?
2. MODEL: The teacher will show the informational text on multimedia. The teacher
will say “The title tells m how the animals play. I want you all to listen and read
carefully as loads of facts and information are given that will help us summarize the
txt. Raise your hand if you understand my instructions.
3. GUIDE: The teacher will guide the students and say, “I will read aloud the first sub
topic and will be asking you questions while reading. Answer using information given
in the text.
How do Wolf cubs play? How do cheetah cub play? What does young antelope do?
How does playing helps animals?
4. APPLY: The teacher will say, “We have not determined the main idea of the text?
How will we do that? I want you all to think about what is the main idea of this text.
After thinking turn to your partner and discuss your thoughts about the main idea of
this text. We will have a whole class discussion on the main idea of this text. The
teacher will have a whole class discussion and will writ the main idea of the text on the
board.
5. The teacher will say, “We will now read second sub topic “Practice Makes Perfect” in
pairs. I want you all to read the subtopic in pairs. I will be asking questions after you
have read. The teacher will be observing students as they read the topic in pairs.
6. The teacher will ask following questions after the students have read. How do young
horses, goats, sheep, and other herbivores play? What are they developing while
playing? What kind of games are played by: chipmunks to chimpanzees? Fishes? Wolf
and lion cubs?
7. The teacher will say “Now I want you all to read the topic “Play Dates” individually
through silent reading. I will be asking questions after you have read.” The teacher will
be observing students as they read the topic. The teacher will be monitoring and
guiding students as they read.
8. The teacher will ask following question after the students have read. What goal does
play serves when animals play in groups?
9. The teacher will show following video to all students:

explain how the summary will be written. Th tachr will show following passage to all
studnts. “Kittens are adorable. They also need a great deal of attention. If you have a
cat, you must ensure that it has enough food to feed. Kittens feed 3-4 times a day. They
need a well-balanced diet. You must even show your kitten how to use a litter box. The
litter box must be kept sterile. Otherwise, the kitten could not use it. You must also
ensure that the kitten is healthy in your home. Pick up some little bits of plastic.
Remove any litter and other things that a kitten might choke on. Caring for a new kitten
is a lot of effort. However, it can also be a lot of fun.”
10. The teacher will model step by step how to write the summary. “Read the whole paper.
Describe the main points. Determine the most important supporting data. Stop
unimportant specifics and thoughts. Remember! the aim of a summary is to easily
explain what a text is about, not to express your views on it or to bore your readers
with minor information.
11. With help of responses of students, the teacher will writ summary of the text “Kittens”.
After
1. The teacher will provide graphic organizer of “summary writing” to ach student and
will ask students to write summary of the text “Why Do Animals Play?”.
2. The teacher will move around the class guiding and supporting students.
3. The teacher will collect graphic organizer and will ask students to share three things
that they learned today.
4. The teacher will revisit the learning objectives “Today I will read informational text
and answer questions asked by my teacher. I will also find out the main idea of this

will ask “Have we achieved our learning objectives.”
