1. Do you think the country has a better government if we are under Dictatorship? Why?
- No. The idea I have is very subjective, yet for me, a dictatorship type of government
is very pregnable to power abuse. For instance, many people believed that the
leadership of Ferdinand Marcos brought lots of significant advancements to the

country during his administration but still it is inhuman for us to deny the fact that
countless lives were unlawfully taken because of the dictatorship type of governance
exhibited. The marks of his dictatorship form of governance even impacts the
economic state of our country up until now – billions of debts to other countries.
Also, the dictator governance of North Korea is widely known all over the world due
to the hardship testimonies delivered by refugees. Moreover, our national heroes and
forefathers sacrifice their lives and shed blood to attain our democracy and freedom;
dictatorship form of government will only demerit those sacrificial deeds. Thus, for
me, the dictatorship wouldn’t make the current government better rather it will add
madness and chaos to the people.
2. What do you think is lacking to make our present government work?
- Our government lacks competence, transparency, and public participation. The
majority especially those Filipinos in a far-flung area fail to be allowed to actively
engage in civic activities designed and implemented for all countrymen. The civic
activity includes recognizing an individual's responsibilities in the community,
knowing one’s rights, abiding by the law, practicing the right to vote, equal access to
public service, etc. Also, we lack to take an initiative as a contribution to the
betterment and possible advancement in our country. If every single one of us would
think about what we can contribute to the community rather than what it can give
back, then weighting can achieve the greater good that most of us long for.
3. In what ways do you think our country’s history shaped the current political environment
of the Philippines?
- The fateful truth that we have been colonized by Spaniards and Americans imprints
political culture that the subsequent administration during our independence inherited
and practiced - passed by generation to generation shapes our political environment.
For instance, the centralization of our government system, barangay to the national
level of governance was being initiated by Spaniards, the bureaucracy law is based on
Americans. These realities hold us from being who we are. We may ignore our past
behind for it was one of the significant aspects why we have this kind of

administration for today, it shouldn't be made of hindrance to make a reform in our
political environment to uplift the situation of our country. May our past serve as an
inspiration to thrive more for our country, not to firmly hold our government leaders
from stepping out of the box, and look for solutions in the needs of the people. Time
is running, the environment is changing, thus our political environment needs to be
flexible, willing to adapt to changes, and be not a prisoner of our past.
