Quick Setup of a Contain DS
EASILY SETUP HAVE A FUNCTIONAL BE ABLE TO USE
CONTAINDS DESKTOP JUPYTER NOTEBOOK PYTHON AND R
Prerequisite
◦ For this setup I have setup the following
◦ Oracle VirtualBox – [Link]
◦ ContainDS Desktop - [Link]
Creating a New ContainDS
environment
New or
Select
from the
Images
Make sure your Have Virtualbox
installed
◦ Docker is another
option, but I used
Virtualbox to run linux
boxes too
Select the Image – in this case Jupyter
Minimal
Make sure the name is not yet an
existing folder under your user directory
Launch the Jupyter Notebook in
Browser
Launch a Terminal to Install R
Command to install R dependencies for
Jupyter Notebook
Let’s try to create a Python Notebook…
…Let’s Rename the Notebook…
…Running simple commands in the
Notebook
This is where your files will be saved
◦ In my case I have a
directory
◦ C:\Users\rowen\jupyt
er-minimal-rowen
You can shutdown a running terminal or
notebook
Let’s try to create an R notebook…
… Let’s rename the notebook…
…Now let’s see if R is working.
Stopping a ContainDS Environment
Let’s export a ContainDS Environment
Exported containds file is
large as it is a subimage
of a docker container
which can imported.
For this example this is
around 4.2GB as it has
the dependencies for R
too
